I have a solution to President Trump’s Iran war problem. It’s pretty simple. Hear me out.
Win the war.
Let me use a sportsball analogy. As Las Vegas Raiders owner Al Davis famously commanded, “Just win, baby.”
We’re doing the on-again/off-again thing again, and it’s getting old. Of course, we have largely achieved our core military objectives. Iran’s ability to generate combat power has been substantially degraded. Their air defenses have been shredded. Their nuclear program has been set back a decade or more. They cannot shut the Strait of Hormuz — they can only make threats and launch the occasional drone or missile. These are impressive results, achieved with relatively low American losses. And for those of you now screaming that we did in fact suffer casualties, stop acting like children. There are 50-square-yard chunks of Omaha Beach where we took multiples of the total U.S. casualties suffered in this entire campaign.
So, to claim we’ve “lost” the war raises that classic “Is he stupid or does he think we’re stupid?” question that we face so often in the current discourse. But while we’ve hit many of our operational goals, we haven’t achieved the main strategic one: removing the regime. That’s winning. And it’s undeniable.
So, let’s win this. Let’s finish it.
Look at the benefits of winning the war. The primary benefit is winning it. Finally taking out the mullahs and their ridiculous 7th-century regime solves a problem that has plagued the region for nearly half a century. Imagine the Middle East without these Persian pissants stirring the pot. Wouldn’t you like to turn on the news and not hear new outrages or atrocities from that part of the world? I’ve never been able to do that during my entire life. I want to start. And the starting point is making Iran’s current rulers ex-mullahs.
Winning the fight also solves the political problem. Let’s be very clear: President Donald Trump is a hero for finally fighting back against Iran. He didn’t have to. He could have kicked the can down the road. He could have spent 2026 basking in economic growth. His policies would have continued delivering results. He could have waltzed into the midterms, dragging Republicans behind him toward success. But he had the courage to do what was necessary to stop these bastards before they made it impossible to prevent them from getting a bomb. However this war ends, he deserves our thanks.
But he’s paid a political price, and Republicans in general have paid it, too. Oh, I don’t want to let them off the hook. They’re not in trouble solely because Donald Trump is fighting the war with Iran. They’re in trouble because they suck — because too many have been weak and useless, and far too many are preening, posturing, perfumed princesses with delusions of adequacy. But enough about John Cornyn and Thom Tillis.
The continuing war presents a political problem for Donald Trump, but the good news is there’s a solution. The political problem with a war in Iran is not that we are making war on Iran. Everybody except the Democrats — who seem to love anyone who hates America — wants to see the mullahs go. Americans don’t mind the war so much as us not winning it. Americans aren’t pacifists. When they need to go to war, they’re fine with it — but they want it done so they can get back to other things.
And here, that hasn’t happened. This has dragged out. Yes, Donald Trump gave them multiple chances to negotiate and, as usual, the enemy has consistently chosen the most obnoxious possible course — as anyone watching Iran for the last half-century knew they would. He gave it the old college try. And another try. And another. The other side isn’t interested in pushing for a deal, so how about we help them push up some daisies?
As Maximus Decimus Meridius ordered, “At my signal, unleash hell.”
President Trump, give the signal.
What am I talking about? A comprehensive, multilateral, multi-domain campaign leveraging every element of national power — starting with, but not ending with, military power. Hold nothing back except the hot rocks that make mushroom clouds.
Multilaterally, it’s time to tell the Israelis “game on” and for our Arab allies from Jordan to Oman to get in the fight. Everybody fights; nobody quits. If we don’t finish this, the Iranians will come back and finish our friends. Time to put on the big-boy robes and put all those expensive toys they bought to work. Will the Iranians hit back? Yeah, a little. Oh, well. Take the hit and hit back harder. And keep hitting.
Multi-domain: land, sea, air, space, cyber — hit them everywhere at once. Seize Kharg Island. Strike from the sea, from the air, and through the wires. Target anything tied to the regime, especially the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. It owns a bunch of so-called legitimate businesses, just like the mafia used to. Flatten them. Whether it’s a construction company, a gas refinery, or a massage parlor, put a bomb on it. At the same time, unleash the Israelis to do what they do best: find the leaders and kill them. Whether it’s a bomb through the window, a bullet through the brain, or a little drone hunting them down, if they’re a regime leader, it’s 72-virgins time.
Israel has thoroughly infiltrated Iranian society — time to use that to push for revolution. And when the Iranian people finally stand up — because only they can do that part of the job — we need to be flying air support and giving them all the guns they want. Hell, maybe we can buy some of our own back from the Afghans that Joe Biden left behind. But no more screwing around. Keep the pressure on. If there are to be negotiations, let them be over the terms of unconditional surrender, so there’s nothing to negotiate. Of course, they won’t surrender, which only makes our mission clearer. Finish the enemy. Comprehensively.
Will this work? If we have the courage and the commitment. The only way our enemies ever stop us is if we stop ourselves. So, let’s not stop. Look at Iraq: for years we allowed a stalemate until George W. Bush surged our forces and they broke the back of the resistance. The mullahs are not going to go easy. They’re religious fanatics convinced of ultimate victory. Let’s disabuse them of that notion the hard way.
Of course, people like me who support actively winning the war — instead of abandoning it or letting it fester like a suppurating wound — will get called “neocons” or “warmongers” by idiots. Oh no, mean names — we should totally give up lest they taunt us a second time. But this isn’t about personalities. It’s about our country. We need to win this. And the way to win this war is to win it. That means leveraging our military capability to the maximum and denying the enemy any respite or sanctuary to rebuild.
But it’s not all military. We must fully leverage the other elements of national power. Use diplomatic power to force our allies — including the NATO freeloaders who’ve been shirking responsibility for keeping the sea lanes open — to do what’s necessary. Focus information warfare on showing the Iranian people there is hope and their leaders that there is none. Economic power? Cut off every stream of income into Iran and force countries holding the mullahs’ ill-gotten gains to turn those dollars over. Bankrupt this corrupt regime. Leave their thugs unpaid. And make it clear that the random general who throws them out and then befriends us will be rich beyond the dreams of any previous Persian pasha.
Is victory certain? Nothing is certain, but it is overwhelmingly likely if we simply do it. We are the United States of America. We can do this. All we have to do is decide we want to win — and then act accordingly. Ruthlessly. Ferociously. Relentlessly.
It bears repeating: “Just win, baby.”

Iran on Wednesday announced that it and Oman agreed on the coordinates of new commercial shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz after several rounds of negotiations, but stressed that the incoming deal would not end the crisis in the region.
Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, told reporters that the reopening of the strait is contingent on the U.S. removing its naval blockade and halting all attacks on Iranian infrastructure.
“An understanding with Oman cannot, in itself, mean that the strait has become safe for passing vessels, because the factors creating insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz — particularly the U.S. naval blockade and other actions against Iran and its interests — remain in place,” he said.
Mr. Baghaei added that officials from both nations are finalizing the language of the agreement and it would be released soon.
Reporting from earlier in the day suggested that the deal was finalized and awaited the approval of Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
Iran and Oman have been negotiating a framework agreement that could determine future control over the strait, which has remained effectively closed since the collapse of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding in July.
Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint connecting the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, in March in response to U.S. and Israeli strikes in late February. Since then, its forces have consistently threatened commercial vessels trying to transit the waterway with drones, missiles, small boats and mines.
At its narrowest point, the Strait of Hormuz is 21 miles wide and therefore would have no international sea for free navigation if Iran and Oman had the usual 12-mile territorial-water rights.
But under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, ships have a right of transit through such straits that, among other things, cannot require a toll or vary among nations.
Other such waterways include the Strait of Malacca between Malaysia and Indonesia, the Strait of Gibraltar between Spain, Morocco and Britain, and the Strait of Dover between Britain and France.
While oil prices have dropped significantly since news of a possible deal to reopen the waterway broke this week, the price per barrel still stands far higher than prewar levels. Brent crude oil, the primary benchmark for purchasing oil worldwide, stood at $79 a barrel on Wednesday compared with $67 in February.
Details of the pending agreement remain unknown but carry immediate implications for regional stability.
Some reports this week have suggested that Iran has demanded that fees be imposed on commercial tankers moving through the waterway in the form of service fees for environmental and security protection.
The deal als could include provisions that would require ships to enter the strait through Iranian-controlled waters while exiting through Omani-controlled routes.
The U.S., which has been kept informed of developments in the talks between Iran and Oman, has insisted that it would accept no deal that included tolls in the Strait of Hormuz, which has for decades been considered international waters.
President Trump this week said he noticed significant progress toward a deal that could reopen the strait, but said Iran would face serious consequences if there was no agreement soon.
“We’re knocking the hell out of them. I’d rather make a deal, because I don’t want to kill people,” Mr. Trump said Wednesday during a speech in Las Vegas. “We are talking, let’s see what happens.”
Mr. Trump teamed up with Israel to launch their joint war in late February against Iran, aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear facilities and fostering regime change.
After several months of attacks and counterattacks, the two sides signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which was supposed to create a 60-day window for direct talks between the two countries.
But the agreement quickly disintegrated after Iran attacked commercial ships in the strait, prompting American strikes on targets in southern Iran.
The countries have since returned to a cycle of violence and diplomacy.
Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, said Wednesday he was skeptical that any deal to open the Strait of Hormuz would be long-lasting.
“Whenever Trump says there’s a deal, it means one of two things: either the strait is still staying closed, or it opens for only a couple of days, and then it closes again,” Mr. Schumer said. “None of his deals have come to fruition, and gas prices continue to rise.”
The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz could open the door to further direct negotiations between the U.S. and Iran over more technical issues, such as the future of Iran’s nuclear program and possible sanctions relief.
However, it is not clear if the U.S. would accept a deal that would let Iran maintain any form of control over the strait, which American officials have rejected in the past, or if Mr. Trump would be willing to remove his naval blockade of Iran’s ports.
The issue is made more complex by further threats to international commerce in the Red Sea, as Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen target Saudi-connected ships on a near-daily basis.
The Houthis on Wednesday claimed responsibility for two strikes on Saudi vessels traveling in regional waters, one off the coast of the port city of Yanbu and another in the Gulf of Aden.
United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations is investigating both incidents. There was no immediate comment from Saudi Arabia.
The strikes are the latest Saudi oil tankers the Houthis have said their forces have targeted since the announcement of the blockade, and one of the furthest from the southern strait. Yahya Saree, Houthi military spokesperson, said Wednesday that the Houthis have turned away 29 other tankers since last month.

The Israeli military began a series of “precision strikes” Wednesday on a town in southern Lebanon after warning residents to evacuate, saying the Iran-backed militia Hezbollah violated the standing ceasefire.
Casualties from the strikes are still unknown, and there was no immediate statement from the Israeli Defense Force or Hezbollah.
Ahead of the strikes, Lt. Col. Ella Waweya, the Arabic-language spokesperson for the Israeli military, wrote in a social media post that residents of Mansouri village, a coastal town, must evacuate to at least 1,000 meters away from the city. It was the first such notice in more than one month.
“Anyone present near Hezbollah elements, their facilities, and their combat means exposes their life to danger!” she wrote on X.
The IDF provided no evidence of Hezbollah’s alleged violation of the ceasefire.
The incident marks the first major evacuation notice issued by the Israeli military since June, when the IDF ordered the clearing of dozens of towns across southern Lebanon.
The strikes also come as the U.S. mediates technical talks between Lebanon and Israel in Rome over the deployment of “pilot zones,” which are intended to be safe from Israeli bombardment, and an eventual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the country.
The talks began on Tuesday and are expected to continue until Thursday.
Regional reporting suggests that the talks are gaining momentum. Still, the talks are limited in their effectiveness since Lebanon has no control over Hezbollah. The group has publicly refused to accept the terms of a deal they do not play a part in negotiating.

The war between Russia and Ukraine and the conflict that has pitted the U.S. and Israel against Iran are distinct political clashes driven by unique regional dynamics, but the lines separating them have become blurred, former senior military officials said Wednesday.
Iran has supplied Russia with drones that it has used to batter Ukrainian cities. At the same time, Moscow has provided Tehran with satellite imagery and targeting intelligence, including the location of U.S. warships and military bases.
In July, the convergence became clear when Ukrainian long-range drones struck cargo ships in the Caspian Sea that were shuttling ordnance with Russia.
“It so happens that some of those shipments were Iranian, and Ukraine is not shy about hitting them, no matter who sends it,” said retired Air Force Gen. Philip Breedlove, a former NATO supreme commander. “Iran has taken umbrage, and now we see that this is going to grow into a wider part of both the Ukrainian and the U.S-Iran conflict.”
On Wednesday, Gen. Breedlove and retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas Bergeson, former deputy commander of U.S. Central Command, addressed the growing links between the Middle East and Ukraine wars in a discussion hosted by the Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA) think tank.
Days after the July 25 drone attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke while both men were in Washington for separate talks with President Trump.
Gen. Bergeson said Russian and Iranian interests have aligned in the Middle East for several years.
“When I was at Central Command, we saw a lot of cooperation between those two nations specifically in Syria in support of the Assad regime,” he said. “The Russians had an interest in maintaining both an air base and a port on the Mediterranean. Iran had an interest in maintaining an open corridor through Syria to supply Lebanese Hezbollah.”
Russia and Iran signed a comprehensive strategic security agreement in January 2025. It wasn’t a mutual defense pact, but it did expand the scale of the technology sharing that was happening between Moscow and Tehran, Gen. Bergeson said.
“What we’re seeing today is clearly the Iranians and the Russians are supplying each other with various technologies that are being used on the battlefield against Ukraine,” he said.
Iran initially supplied Russia with several hundred one-way kamikaze attack drones, primarily the Shahed-136 and the Shahed-131 models. While exact import numbers vary, analysts estimate that Tehran provided from 600 to more than 3,000 units.
Gen. Bergeson said Iran was able to use Russian-supplied intelligence to plan and coordinate recent attacks on the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia and Muwaffaq Air Base in Jordan, which is frequently targeted by Iranian missiles and drone strikes.
“The attack on the air base in Jordan, which actually went after our air defense artillery sites, requires a lot of knowledge of those systems, capabilities, and how to avoid them and then hit them with a lot of accuracy,” he said.
While there is no formal defense agreement between Ukraine and Israel regarding each other’s common enemy, Gen. Bergeson said he could guarantee that discussions are going on at a lower level.
“We absolutely should encourage this kind of sharing of intelligence, tactics, technologies, procedures among like-minded nations that are both in existential fights against enemies that are similar,” he said. “So why not encourage that kind of sharing?”
Gen. Breedlove said the U.S. has had mixed success eliminating Iran’s store of missiles.
“We have been striking hard and precisely, and with good effect on that target set, but they still have the capability to reach out and strike,” he said. “In Iran right now, their mantra is: ’We don’t have to win this war, we just have to survive to perpetuate the war.’”

The bloodthirsty Iranian regime has executed at least 56 people on dubious national security charges since March, according to the United Nations — which blasted Iran for the “deeply troubling” practice.
Twenty-seven of the 56 were linked to the widespread January protests against the country’s despotic regime and brutal treatment of its citizens.
Another roughly 100 people are believed to currently be awaiting execution on similar charges, according to the BBC.

The barbaric executions — which are often carried out in public — are part of a widespread tactic “to instill fear among the population and suppress dissent,” UN human rights chief Volker Türk said in a recent scathing statement.
“Such punishment has no place in our world,” Türk said.
The chief also raised alarm about the judicial process that leads to capital punishment — saying trials and due process were nearly non-existent in Iran.
“Several executions have reportedly been carried out in public. Some have reportedly been carried out only weeks after arrest,” Türk said. “Twelve defendants were reportedly sentenced to death following a single three-hour closed-door hearing.”
Iran is notorious for its use of executions — which it metes out so liberally that the country is the second-most prolific user of capital punishment on Earth.
Iran’s use of capital punishment is infamous — the country put over 2,000 people to death in 2025.
That was the highest number of people executed in the country since 1981 and came during 12 months of widespread public dissent over the Iranian government’s treatment of its people.
With war now raging and the Iranian regime on the brink of collapse, the UN cautioned that Iran appeared to be weaponizing public executions to keep the citizenry living in fear.
Iran did not respond to the UN’s comments, but has previously defended its use of capital punishment by saying it was reserved only for “the most severe crimes.”
Several people were executed in the last two weeks alone, including a 19-year-old charged with “enmity against god” for allegedly partaking in January’s protests. Two others arrested during the protests were also executed.
And in July, two people were executed out of a group of 12 convicted of “corruption on Earth” and “enmity against God” over connections to four police killed in January.
But they were tried as a group, with the UN cautioning that each was sentenced to death “in one hearing, in a closed courtroom and without clarity as to each defendant’s individual responsibility.”

Trump vows to punish ‘leakers’ who said U.S. munitions are running short!-Posted on The Washington times-By Tom Howell Jr., The Washington Times-On August 6, 2026:
President Trump insisted Thursday that the U.S. has ample military firepower and said he wants to prosecute “leakers” who told the media that supplies are running short.
Mr. Trump appeared to be responding to reports, first in Reuters, that said the U.S. had exhausted nearly all of its highly accurate long-range missiles during the war with Iran.
“The U.S. has massive amounts of ‘munitions,’ especially of certain types. Additionally, large amounts are being manufactured and shipped to the U.S. as needed,” Mr. Trump posted on Truth Social. “Defense companies are building the largest number of plants and factories in our country’s history.”
Reports about the U.S. running law referred to Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) and Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM). Each of the long-range munitions costs about $1 million.
Mr. Trump reacted furiously. During his speeches, the president boasts about building up the military during both his terms and accuses former President Joseph R. Biden of giving too much weaponry away to Ukraine without payment.
Mr. Trump said the persons responsible for saying the Iran war drained supplies would be prosecuted.
“The ‘leakers’ of these treasonous statements are being hunted down. Long-term jail sentences will be sought!” he posted.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt rebuffed a Washington Post report that the president confronted Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over shortages at a recent Camp David meeting.
The report said Mr. Hegseth blamed a deputy for the shortages and not keeping Mr. Trump’s apprised of the situation.
“I was at Camp David with President Trump and Secretary Hegseth,” Ms. Leavitt posted on X. “This literally never happened, and we told the Washington Post that repeatedly. This B.S. story was shopped to many outlets by someone clearly out to disparage the Secretary, for whatever reason.
“Unfortunately for them,” she posted, “the President loves the Secretary and thinks he’s doing a tremendous job.”
Mr. Trump fumed over the munitions report as Middle East mediators try to complete a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, an oil choke point.
Iran and Oman on Wednesday settled on a plan in which commercial vessels would use select routes to enter and exit the straits, though it is unclear if the U.S. approves of the plan and would lift its blockade of Iranian ships and ports.
The Trump administration sees a deal to reopen the strait as a prelude to deeper talks on preventing Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
Mr. Trump launched his war on Iran on Feb. 28 to curtail the regime’s nuclear ambitions. Iran retaliated by closing the Strait of Hormuz, leading to cycles of violence and diplomacy.
