A sketchy New Jersey organ procurement company — already under federal investigation — tried to harvest organs from a man who had withdrawn his donor registration, saying “when you check that box to be a donor, it’s a lifetime contract.“

Keith Lott, 47, suffered cardiac arrest while having sex with his wife at their Swedesboro home on May 16. Paramedics performed CPR and shocked his heart several times while rushing Lott to the hospital.

Three days later, doctors at Cooper University Hospital in Camden declared him brain dead.
Lott, a recent convert to Islam, had removed his donor registration in 2025 due to his religious convictions.

“Yet the representatives callously told the family ‘when you check that box to be a donor, it’s a lifetime contract,’ Keith’s sister-in-law, Tiffany Lott, said.”

The NJ Sharing Network even allegedly threatened to take Lott’s family and hospital administrators to court.

Ultimately, NJ state Senator Paul Moriarty was called in, and two hours later NJ Sharing Network backed down, allowing the Lott family to withdraw Keith’s support in a dignified manner in accordance with their beliefs.

Last year, the US House Ways and Means Committee announced an investigation of the NJ Sharing Network for fraud, cover-ups and illegal practices: including unfairly pressuring families during their time of grief and an instance of proceeding with organ recovery from a patient showing signs of life.
