Admiral McRaven recently advised the Secretary of Defense to assemble a "council of colonels". Specifically, unpromotable ones. The reason? Because they're the only ones who will tell the truth.
Read that again: BECAUSE THEY'RE THE ONLY ONES WHO TELL THE TRUTH.
A four star admiral openly acknowledges that honesty and career advancement are incompatible in today's military.
This isn't an indictment of ADM McRaven; it's a glaring reflection of a system that rewards silence over integrity.
If truth tellers are sidelined, and only those who've "played the game" ascend, what does that say about our leadership?
It's time to reevaluate a promotion culture that suppresses candor and promotes conformity.
