Construction workers on the U.S.-Mexico border were notified to stop all border wall projects by the end of Tuesday, according to a congressman whose district sits on the international boundary.

Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Texas Democrat, said in a statement issued late Monday that federal contractors working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection were notified by the agency to stop installing the 18- to 30-foot-tall portion of a slatted steel wall across California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.

“I received notification that in accordance with President Biden’s executive order, all CBP contractors have now been formally notified by CBP Procurement to pause construction activities on CBP self-executed projects,” Cuellar said. “While CBP cannot speak on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense or U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), it is expected that DOD and USACE are undertaking parallel action on CBP-funded border wall projects that they are overseeing.”

President Joe Biden halted construction on border wall projects along the U.S.-Mexico boundary within hours of taking office on Jan. 20, marking what the end to one of the Trump administration’s highest-profile undertakings.

The White House has not revealed what it will do with contracts for the remaining 290 miles, including how it will pay workers and for materials.

“The proclamation directs an immediate pause in wall construction projects to allow a close review of the legality of the funding and contracting methods used, and to determine the best way to redirect funds that were diverted by the prior Administration to fund wall construction,” the White House executive order stated.

More than 450 miles have been installed since former President Donald Trump took office in January 2017.

Seven hundred and thirty-eight miles have been funded for $15.5 billion, including $10 billion diverted from the Treasury and Pentagon.

  • EVERY border state should sue, along with TEXAS.  Probably illegal to stop work when congressional legislation created the job (and JOBS!!!) in the first place!!!

    • The EO suspends the wall construction while the Administration works on the legality of transferring the funds from other programs to the wall... However, that was already one under Trump... when the Dem's held up the funds while suing... so the EO is a shame and illegal... needs a lawsuit and a court order to proceed... since it had already been ruled proper ... no stay on the Construction should happen while the Biden Crime syndicate tries to hold up the funding.

The XL Pipeline should also continue as it has been fully approved and the courts have given it a green light on environmental challenges... another frivolous and unlawful EO... however if the GOP does nothing these EO's will take effect. That's the price for losing elections.... and or doing nothing about fraudulent elections.

Call your governor and thank them for BETRAYING AMERICA... by permitting the fraudulent Election to be certified... Don't accept his excuse that his state followed the law... as every state has a constitutional duty to the whole... too, ensure federal elections are properly supervised and not openly rigged thru Fraudulent means. The Red States can all unite and shut down the Federal Government... with a Writ of Quo Warranto challenging Biden and Harris to prove they won the election, without fraudulent vote totals and breaking federal, local, and state laws regulating elections and protecting the civil rights of voters. An unlawful election for federal office in one state affects all states.

The GOP State Governors and Legislatures need to form a Red State Caucus... to begin s series of Anti-Commendeering actions to overturn federal government overreach. Things like permitting the XL Pipeline to continue construction in their state by arresting and prosecuting federal agents that trespass on XL property or attempt to serve warrants or orders without coordinating them with the local sheriff who... obeying state law will refuse to assist. There are many steps States must take if we are to save the Republic ... including notifying the Federal Government that their agents are no too assert jurisdictional authority without a state order AND THE LOCAL SHERIFF OR STATE POLICE ASSISTING and then refuse to assist.

    • I agree.

  • Just ignore it and keep building and let it drag through the courts for four years or so.

    • Good idea

  • Trump is a builder and developer. He built most of the wall anyway. Trump went to the wall on one of his last trips as President to celebrate yet another achievement and another promise kept. In any case, Biden won't dare to tear it down.

  • A  'Wall' that covers less than Half the Southern  Border with Mexico is not a wall... it's not an effective barrier... it is a joke.

The United States’ southern border with Mexico is 1,933 miles long, stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the tip of South Texas. Some 700 of those miles have fencing in place. That’s not enough for President Donald Trump, who promised during his campaign to build a border wall.

    • Take the picture tour... the wall is a joke.  Portions of the Rio Grande are being used as a barrier... most of the year you can wade across the Rio Grande.. and when it is deeper, boats, inner tubes, water wings, air mattresses all work... even plastic milk jugs wrapped in tape... it is not a barrier it is a joke.   Major gaps in the wall, and the poor design allows ladders to be used.... there are walls designed to defeat ladders why didn't we build such a wall. It is as if the Border Patrol and our government are inviting an invasion by illegal aliens... Oops, maybe the Marxist Democrats are ... as part of their greater wealth transfer plan.

They claim the wall at the pacific ocean hinders those unable to swim from getting around it... look it is barely 50yrs out... gee a pair of kid's water wings... a garbage bag filled with empty plastic milk jugs and grandma can float around the wall.  Come nightfall and bad weather... cutting visibility to a few feet and hundreds of illegals should have no problem feeling their way around the so-called wall.   As for the over 1200 miles of no wall ... how does that keep out illegals... dessert conditions, are not a hindrance, rouged terrain is not a problem for individuals who have walked from South America to cross our border.  Anyone who believes we have control of our Border is completely delusional.... the systems in place certainly will not slow down the drug cartels and they are running the human smuggling business.  The border is so porous and easy to penetrate that these illegals are bringing their infants with them.

Once you've taken the tour and seen what they call natural terrain barriers you will want to write your members of Congress... and inform them they need to fire those who claim there are natural barriers effectively stopping DRUGS and illegal aliens from entering... I assure you that none of the natural barriers along our Border will even slow down the onslaught of illegal drugs and mass migration.

    • What Trump started is just that, a start.  EVERY project has to have a start point and the wall that has been built is an effective barrier in that it forces border jumpers into choke points that are easier to patrol.

What a lot of people also fail to realize is that there is a lot of natural barriers that make it very difficult to illegally come to the USA.

Trump was trying to cover the areas that are the easiest to use for the first parts of the wall.

I lived in San Diego for almost 20 years and I can tell you that the wall built there helped one helluva lot.  By forcing illegal crossers out into the backcountry where it is MUCH harder to blend in and they are easier to spot.

As for being able to swim around the wall, it is a helluva lot easier to spot a swimmer or boat on the ocean than the catch someone that jumps the border and runs fast enough to blend in with the crowd in the area right next to the border.

Is a wall ever going to be 100% effective?  Nope, but it can make it much easier to control the border.

For those that say it is a waste, I say you don't have a clue what you are talking about.

    • Chokepoints?  One heck of a chokepoint, 1200 miles of no wall and in places only barbed-wire... it doesn't take long for the illegals and drug smugglers to find and avoid the wall ... there is near twice as much open border than the wall. I really like those natural terrain barriers. Especially the Rio Grande river. Most of the year can be easily waded across and when you can't, get an air mattress, an inner tube, or a trash bag full of milk jugs and float across.  That's what is called an effective natural barrier.  Not!  The few places where there are effective barriers, one can avoid them, as there are plenty of places where one can walk across the border, without hardly knowing they entered the USA... The Border is so undefended and barely marked in many places.

The wall in southern California is a double wall and is effective... however the Drug Cartels simply go around it by moving East to Tecate, Ca where a single strand barbed-wire fence was the only thing there when I visited 5yrs ago.  The few natural barriers touted are also easily avoided or negotiated.  Just look at the pictures. There was only one truly ominous natural barrier in the photo tour.  The Cannon in Big Bend, Texas but on each end of the cannon it is easy to cross... been there.  As for swimming around the Pacific wall, do it at night and in the fog or blinding rain, when one can't see two feet in front of their face.  I was raised in California and I have spent lots of time in Texas and New Mexico along the border ... there are miles of border without so much as a barbed-wire fence in the Pecos region and along the New Mexico Border.  The desert is supposed to be a natural barrier.in those locations.. hardly the case.

A real wall with proper security can be very effective ... more than 90% effective.  But and alas, the powers that be don't want a wall... They need access to cheap labor and drugs to sell to the inner city addicts.
