This is Niagara Falls, Ontario. This week.An American nurse went to that ER. She says about 40 people were lined on gurneys in the hallways all the way toward the foyer. Overflow bay. Dried fluids under the bed. Floors filthy. Urine and feces in the air.
Hours for sutures on her face. No ice for about three hours. She says the doctor came in with dirty gloves, didn’t wash, touched the wound with bare hands, and didn’t clean it before stitching. A nurse set down ointment and told her to do it. Her sister cleaned the blood off.
No privacy. She heard full conversations between staff and the patients right outside her door.
She thinks the only reason she got a room at all is that she’s American and paying cash.
Staff told her she was lucky. Some people wait 8 to 12 hours.
