BREAKING: An enforcement operation is underway in Lochiel, Arizona at the "Lochiel Border Autonomous Zone." Since July 27th, roughly 100 left-wing activists have occupied miles of the southern border, blocking construction of the double border wall, a barrier reserved for high-traffic areas where smuggling is prevalent. By sleeping in a cottonwood tree that must be excavated for construction to continue, they've delayed the wall for months. Early in the standoff, the Sheriff's Office stood with the protesters and refused to assist Border Patrol in resolving the situation. The area is a patchwork of federal, reservation, and private land running right up against Mexico, which makes jurisdiction and enforcement complicated.
