Officer took and shared photos of bloodied Tyre Nichols, documents say | Tyre Nichols | The Guardian

A Memphis Police Officer arrested in connection with the death of Tyre Nichols sent text messages to at least five individuals of photographs he took of Nichols after he was beaten by officers Jan. 7, according to MPD documents released Tuesday.

Demetrius Haley admitted to taking two photos of the injured individual, who was severely beaten repeatedly by the officers. Haley sent one photo to a “civilian” employee, two officers and a female friend of Haley’s, the documents show, and a sixth individual was detected who also received the photo, according to MPD.

Nichols, who was initially stopped at a traffic light for reckless driving, ran from the scene, and was tracked down at another location, died three days later in the hospital.

  • As the attacks on law enforcement increases, the qualifications are lowered to the point that we are now getting people that aren't much better then the crooks they arrest, until we have no justice at all!

  • Why would the pictures be a problem?   Did they show injuries not consistent with the Video footage?  Doesn't the accused have a right to submit his own pictures or is it only the prosecution that has that privilege?  Something smells here and it isn't the fish.

He used a personal phone and is alleged to have texted the photo to several people, including a civilian.

    • Interesting... maybe the theory of revenge has some weight here... I wonder who the recipients were.  In any event, the character of our law enforcement officers needs to be examined... Are we recruiting the very best?

I would rather have fewer officers of a higher caliber than a busload of ex-gang bangers wearing the Blue Uniforms of Law enforcement.

    • At minimum it's in bad taste!
