When a bald eagle tangled unexpectedly with a government drone last month in Michigan, it won, emerging from the scene unscathed. And the drone? Officials say it is somewhere in Lake Michigan.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy disclosed the attack on Thursday, almost one month after the eagle sent the $950 drone into the Great Lake.

The trouble began when Hunter King, an environmental quality analyst with the department, sent a drone over Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to map shoreline erosion, the department said.

His drone’s reception started to sputter, so he commanded it to return home. He watched on a screen as his drone turned back to head toward him when it suddenly began to spiral.

  • We Few Patriots True

Ye band of brothers few, whose courage ran red; whose, blood did paint the fields of valor anew… Whose, dead now speak to us… arise take our standard and stand too. For your nation needs you to be true.

Raise high the banners of our cause, once more to hear the call, of the trumpet loud, and the sound of the drummer’s beat, to the cadence of war… they call. For we few, we patriots true, shall not faint so easily, nor turn from our due… ‘Tis but our call, too stay the course. Rally now the warhorse… Charge the cannon true. Let bark, liberties sound, that all may know… We are Americans thru and true.

For sooner the cowards brace, their lesser course… to give way before the tide of men, these few brothers, this band of Patriots, true; shall once more charge with steel, their homeward course, and give no breath to lesser men. Stand now ye men of valor true, lift up thine eyes… and with no more ado, take hold of your heritage and the sword of truth. That our Nation may no longer suffer, the cowards brace.

Let us all remember our brother's call… on this day of honor for those few who gave all. I often, muse at the past too find my eyes grow dim with tears of sorrow for the many who died… those brave few whose lives so righteously speak of the promise of liberty too us all. It is but a fleeting memory that catches the wind… a breath of the past, now needed so desperately by we few, we veterans of sorrows long past.
