President Biden directed states Thursday to make all adults eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine no later than May 1 and targeted Independence Day as the entry point to normalcy, saying he wants to see Americans hold cookouts and other small gatherings after a nightmarish year.

“America is coming back,” the president said from the East Room of the White House.

Betting the U.S. will rebound from one of its “darkest” periods, Mr. Biden said increased production of three vaccines will allow governors who’ve tightly controlled eligibility to fling open the gates within six weeks. It is possible states would have reached that point, anyway, but the president used his first primetime address to declare it won’t be optional.

“That’s much earlier than expected,” Mr. Biden said. “That doesn’t mean everyone will have that shot immediately but it means you’ll be able to get in line beginning May 1.”

The president also boasted the U.S. will beat his modest goal of 100 million shots in 100 days by his 60th day in office, citing a daily pace of vaccinations that exceeds 2 million per day. Biden Says if Americans ‘Do Their Part,’ and Get Vaccinated, They May Be Able to Have Cookouts and BBQs on the 4th of July

In his first prime time speech from the White House Thursday night, Joe Biden announced magnanimously that Americans will be allowed to gather with their families and even their friends in small groups to have cookouts and barbecues on Independence Day if we all do our part and get vaccinated. Mr. Biden also said citizens will be issued “additional guidance” regarding what they can do at work, in church, and with their friends.

Biden began his speech by attacking the Trump administration with a series of boldfaced lies: “A year ago, we were hit with a virus that was met with silence and spread unchecked. Denials for days, weeks, then months. That led to more deaths, more infections, more stress, and more loneliness,” he said. In fact, President Trump immediately shut down travel first with China, and then with Europe, which Biden slammed as “xenophobic.” Trump also quickly assembled a Coronavirus task group that provided guidelines to stop the spread. In mid-March, the task force issued their “15 Days to Slow the Spread” guidelines, and Trump declared a National Emergency, freeing up more than $42 billion in resources for states and localities. He left it to the states to implement their guidelines and mandates.

Biden also gave voice to the corrupt Democrat/media conspiracy theory that the recent spate of attacks on Asians are Donald Trump’s fault because he criticized communist China for the spread of  Covid-19. 

Biden said the “vicious hate crimes against Asian Americans” are due to them being “scapegoated.”

In reality, the vast majority of these crimes have been committed by black career criminals, and black on Asian violence has been a “dirty little secret” in many cities for years.

Without mentioning President Trump’s hard work in getting several vaccines to market in record time, Biden went on to take full credit for reaching the goal of 100 million shots in his first 60 days in office.
