On Wednesday, billionaire tech mogul and philanthropist Bill Gates recently held an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit to “answer questions” about the deadly Chinese coronavirus pandemic that is sweeping across the world, infecting and killing thousands and crippling countless economies in its wake.

Midway through the AMA discussion, participant RemoteControlledUser asked Gates the following question:

“What changes are we going to have to make to how businesses operate to maintain our economy while providing social distancing?”

He responded to the user, pointing out various critical services that should be kept running:

“The question of which businesses should keep going is tricky. Certainly food supply and the health system. We still need water, electricity and the internet. Supply chains for critical things need to be maintained. Countries are still figuring out what to keep running.”

The founder of Microsoft then seemingly answered the “social distancing” portion of the question:

“Eventually we will have some digital certificates to show who has recovered or been tested recently or when we have a vaccine who has received it.”

Not surprisingly, Gates’ verbiage about these so-called “digital certificates” caused concern among some of the other users who were keeping track of the discussion.

“Digital certificates? Are you saying each person individually will receive a document that says we were tested? Can that be used against us?” asked the wallrus.

User Telescope_Horizon chimed in and addressed their concerns, mentioning how a “digital certificate” is essentially a “digital ID microchip” that will be implanted under a person’s skin:

“…Microsoft and MIT developed ‘tatoo markers’ that show whether you have recieved a vaccine or not. This will be coupled with Gate’s new invention, ID2020, which is a digital ID microchip implanted under the skin.”

ID2020’s official website describes itself as “setting the course of digital ID through a multi-stakeholder partnership” and assures its clients that digital ID will be “responsibly implemented and widely accessible.”
