This came after 10 months of negotiations with the government.
Cohen emailed my prosecutor saying he had reason to believe I was planning to plead guilty the next day — but that I did not actually believe I was guilty — and asked if the government would consider pulling the deal.
(I have Cohen’s email to the prosecutor.)As it turns out, he was right. I was planning to plead guilty, and I wasn’t guilty.
But to him, the story wasn’t that the U.S. government was coercing an innocent person into a guilty plea. The story was that he had an opportunity to join forces with a corrupt and weaponized government to strip a Trump voter of a misdemeanor plea deal and expose him to felony charges and prison time.
