I have always believed that Chicago taxpayers should not be forced to pay for the consequences of gang bangers who terrorize our communities. Yet the Johnson Administration is asking the Chicago City Council to approve a $650,000 settlement for innocent individuals harmed not by Chicago Police Officers, but by three masked thugs driving in a stolen car with weapons who were evading arrest after driving from Back of the Yards to Brighton Park at over 80 miles per hour!
Sadly, again, the Finance Committee voted to approve this settlement and stick it to Chicago taxpayers.
I am thankful to my colleagues Alds. Hopkins, Beale, Quinn, Curtis, Mosley, Scott, Taliaferro, Cardona, Reilly and Silverstein for joining me in voting AGAINST this item and fighting to protect taxpayers. I encourage all of Chicago to call their Alderperson and demand they say NO to this settlement!
