DeSantis Pushing Back: Looks to Restore Failing and Ideologically Adrift New College in Florida. Fl.gov: Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Christopher Rufo, Dr. Matthew Spalding, Dr. Charles R. Kesler, Dr. Mark Bauerlein, Debra Jenks, and Jason “Eddie” Speir to the New College of Florida Board of Trustees(Fl.gov). Chris Rufo: The immediate experiment is to say, can we take a university that is notoriously low performing, can we change it to a classical liberal arts model, bring in conservative faculty, bring in conservative leadership, bring in a new president, which we’ve just done.
