YES! CRIME PAYS IN CHICAGO………
No surprise Mayor’s Office is going to pay the family of Dexter Reed $1.2 million despite the fact that he opened fire on cops. THE CITY (TAXPAYERS) ALWAYS PAY! Suing city is a lucrative enterprise both for those who bring the lawsuits and those who the city hires to settle them.
Since 2020, at least 330 police officers have been shot at, 38 were shot, injured, or killed as there has been a fivefold increase in number of cops being shot at since the Consent Decree. Who does the police sue when they are attacked? Has the city ever sued on behalf of a police officer?
The city and state through things like the Consent Decree and the Safe-T Act, with their ever increasing police mandates, make it easier not only for lawyers to get their violent clients off but to then sue the city claiming cops didn’t follow procedures or violated their clients rights.
Since 2000 the city has paid nearly $700 million in 300 cases in which people said they were framed by Chicago police. Of that, $138 million went to outside lawyers who defended the city. Tally covers only federal lawsuits and doesn’t include fees awarded to the plaintiffs' lawyers.
