“Lewiston, Maine has a large Somali population because in 2001 they became the targets of something the media later labeled targeted migration”
- Basically, Somalis who had been settled elsewhere, mainly in Atlanta, decided they were just gonna pick a town that would provide adequate welfare benefits
- They then moved as many Somalis into Lewiston, Maine as possible
- When they overwhelmed the system, the mayor finally asked them to please stop moving there
- They then used that as an excuse to call in the media, claiming that they were being racist and Islamophobic and that the mayor and other people there were being racist and Islamophobic
- The resulting media extravaganza basically ensured that they would get to stay in Lewiston, Maine forever“They promptly set up a bunch of refugee resettlement NGOs and other schemes, and they have been bringing in more people ever since.
