Read this little bit of sunshine🤮; The Marijuana Bill - Amendment 3 on the Florida ballot. Regardless as to how you feel about cannabis, some stuff you should know about Amendment 3 on the Florida Ballot:
Â
1. It provides enshrined monopoly status to commercial producers of marijuana. In other words, you are required to purchase marijuana from a corporation. It is still a felony if you grow it yourself or sell the product. Most of the companies are based in Canada and Canadian authorities will regulate the production, packaging, and distribution.
Â
2. It has a "zero accountability/total immunity" provision - meaning that the companies that sell the marijuana cannot be held legally liable for anything that occurs with their marijuana, including distribution. You cannot sue a driver who gets into an accident... you cannot sue if the Marijuana is tainted or contaminated... you cannot even sue a commercial trucker carrying their product to a store if the two of you get into an accident. It has a total immunity provision.
Â
3. It eliminates all non-smoking laws only for marijuana. You cannot smoke a cigarette in a non smoking area, but you can smoke marijuana in a non smoking public area. The law completely voids the non smoking provision in public areas for marijuana (private enterprises can still make their own rules).
Â
If you want to decriminalize Marijuana, that's up to you. But this Amendment does not really do that. It is a corporate marijuana bill designed to give a handful of companies a monopoly on cannabis and complete legal immunity if something goes wrong. It goes so far as to explicitly protect marijuana distribution executives from personal liability.
Â
Keep that in mind when considering Amendment 3.
