A Veteran and Former Deputy Sheriff Under Involuntary Detention

Sean Connolly is currently being held under a Section 302 involuntary commitment at Brooke Glen Behavioral Hospital in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Connolly is not a typical psychiatric patient.

He is a U.S. military veteran and former Montgomery County Deputy Sheriff who for years has raised concerns about local institutions, development practices, and cases he believed involved wrongful treatment of residents.

Supporters say his detention raises serious questions about whether the legal standard required for involuntary psychiatric commitment was properly applied.

The situation is particularly notable because Connolly had previously spoken out about the same behavioral health facility where he is now confined.

The Renee Mazer Case

Connolly became involved in advocating for Renee Mazer, a woman who had been confined at Brooke Glen during a contentious custody dispute.

According to individuals familiar with the situation, Connolly worked to expose what he believed was an unjust confinement and questioned whether the facility’s evaluation and treatment decisions were appropriate.

Last week, the legal case against Mazer was dropped.

Supporters say the development reinforces Connolly’s concerns that the situation may have involved improper institutional action.

The coincidence is striking.

The man who had been challenging Brooke Glen’s role in that case is now detained inside the same facility.
