The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, on the brink of fulfilling its 'A2020' goals that were prioritized in the wake of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy of five years ago — specifically, of doubling the number of women and people of color among its membership — has announced the next phase of its equity and inclusion initiative, 'Academy Aperture 2025,' tying Oscar eligibility to representation and inclusion standards, starting with the 94th Academy Awards, the one that will celebrate the films of 2021.
The Academy is setting up a task force "to develop and implement new representation and inclusion standards for Oscars eligibility by July 31, 2020."
The measure was approved on Thursday via a Zoom meeting of the board of governors that had originally been scheduled for Tuesday, but was delayed two days to avoid a conflict with the funeral of George Floyd, the Black man whose killing at the hands of Minnesota police has sparked an international push for racial justice.
"While the Academy has made strides, we know there is much more work to be done in order to ensure equitable opportunities across the board," Academy CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement. "The need to address this issue is urgent. To that end, we will amend — and continue to examine — our rules and procedures to ensure that all voices are heard and celebrated."
Academy president David Rubin added, "Through the dedication, focus and concerted effort of our board of governors and members on the branch executive committees, the Academy has surpassed the goals of our A2020 initiative. But to truly meet this moment, we must recognize how much more needs to be done, and we must listen, learn, embrace the challenge and hold ourselves and our community accountable. Academy leadership and our board are committed to ensuring that we continue to weave equity and inclusion into the fabric of every Academy initiative, committee, program and event."

Delusion seems to keep growing in the wildwood - -who cares; I have not watched that waste of gold plated bronze in more that 15 years.
We quit watching movies and TV decades ago. We have no use for the rabid social engineering!
I don't think I've watched the Acadamy Awards in... well, ever. Not all the way through, anyway. A bunch of hacks and posers who make a living being someone they're not standing at a mic and telling everyone else how society should be doing things. It doesn't even remotely interest me.
Just because someone puts a microphone in front of you doesn't mean you have anything important to say.
Must everything be politicized? Haven't we all had enough political correctness to last a lifetime! The movies and the people making them are no longer relevant, it is a rehash of the same old crap while the old and great films like Gone with the Wind is now not being sold at Amazon. I haven't watched the Oscars in probably 10 years or more, because I don't want to hear the political opinions of some half baked and uneducated person.
Over the years we can see that hollywood has produced less interesting or meaningful movies because of their "structural" requirements, rather than talent, suspense, writing, directing or production quality. Even though today they can use computers to enhance the back ground of movies, the content is dull, often stupid or demeaning to white males (ie the denegration of fathers as stupid), the fake importance of teen ideas and values as a standard. The hypocrisy of the left in the movies of being pro gun control, while making many movies with gangs, shoot outs and lots of blood. Also various actors and movie wonks like to express their opinion on issues as if they have some superior knowledge, but merely abuse the abiltiy to get on camera. As they mostly live in secure or fenced in mansions, their opinions are usually far from the reality of the common, middle class US taxpayer. They over value what they do as if it was critical to our survival and are overly paid for their output. These Academy awards are meaningless to me and many "regular" citizens, since it's just a vote by the industry's peers. If they like an actor he gets an award, even if his movie is crap. If they dislkie one of them (ie Gibson), they shun him or his work, when it actually has more meaning or attraction. Most of the youth oriented productions are simple minded nonsense. With constant prissy girls vying for popularity or trying to catch a particular boyfriend actually opposes the left wing agenda of strong, independent women. Having teenage girls living off daddy's wealth and bumming around to malls and parties as an important just shows what dumbing down really is about. Take your Academy awards and shove it.....I don't watch it, don't care..........and it should be marginalized as an inside industry pop contest.
To put it simply, hollyweird is nonessential. They need to get over themselves.
Well stated sir & 100% on the money.
Hollywood has NOT produced any movies worth watching!!
Hollywood's idea for a good movie is to pirate the topic and themes of COMIC BOOKS... they no longer have the independent talent to write or produce truly amazing films like: The Patriot 2000, Gone with the Wind 1939, The 10 Commandments 1956, or Cleopatra 1963... Then there is the all-time classic Wizard of Oz released in1939, it is still going strong. Those movies were master productions carrying real entertainment and social value in the underlying story; there epic content and character still move audiences of today... unlike the so-called images of comic book characters and their often salacious and lascivious appeal to the sexual appetites of a perverted generation
