They did not.

Instead they froze domestic training slots, expanded provisional and fast-track IMG licensing in 18+ states, and kept the replacement pipeline wide open.

In the 2026 Match, 2,862 PGY-1 positions sat unfilled while qualified American graduates were left unmatched.

This was never about shortages.
It was engineered scarcity followed by replacement.

Lift the cap.
Prioritize American doctors.
End the two-tier system.

Politicians decrying the doctor shortage carries as much weight as their complaints about the debt ...they caused.
