As a resident of [your location] and one of your constituents, I am writing to urge you to support and actively fight for meaningful immigration reform that secures our borders, protects American workers, and preserves the value and integrity of American citizenship.

Our nation has long welcomed lawful immigrants who follow the rules and contribute to our country. However, the continuing crisis of illegal immigration and the failure to enforce existing laws have placed growing pressures on communities across the United States, including here in [your state].

Our state already faces challenges related to infrastructure, public services, healthcare, education, and workforce development. Taxpayers should not be expected to shoulder additional burdens resulting from a broken immigration system that encourages illegal entry and fails to put the interests of American citizens first. Every dollar spent addressing the consequences of illegal immigration is a dollar that cannot be invested in our schools, roads, law enforcement, veterans, seniors, and local communities.

I respectfully urge you to support legislation in the following six critical areas:

1. Mandate E-Verify and End Illegal Employment

Please support:

• S. 1151 – The Accountability Through Verification Act by Senator Chuck Grassley
• H.R. 251 – The Legal Workforce Act by Representative Ken Calvert
• S. 4620 – The Mandatory E-Verify Act of 2026 by Senator Katie Britt

These bills would require employers to verify the legal work status of employees, strengthen penalties against employers who knowingly hire illegal workers, and combat Social Security fraud. Jobs are one of the greatest incentives for illegal immigration. Mandatory E-Verify would help protect American workers, prevent identity theft, and ensure that employers hire legally authorized employees.

2. End Chain Migration and Prioritize the Nuclear Family

• H.R. 2705 – The Nuclear Family Priority Act by Representative Eli Crane
• H.R. 8586 – The Americans First Immigration Act by Representative Barry Moore
• S. 1328 – The Nuclear Family Priority Act by Senator Jim Banks

Our immigration system should prioritize spouses and minor children rather than extended family categories that dramatically increase immigration numbers beyond what most Americans believe the system was designed to support. These reforms would restore balance and place America's interests first.

3. End the Visa Lottery

Please support:

• H.R. 1241 – The SAFE Act by Representative Mike Collins

The Diversity Visa Lottery awards 55,000 green cards each year based largely on chance rather than skills, economic needs, or close family ties. Immigration policy should be intentional and should serve our nation's interests.

4. Reform Birthright Citizenship

Please support:

• H.R. 569 – The Birthright Citizenship Act of 2025 by Representative Brian Babin
• S. 304 – The Birthright Citizenship Act of 2025 by Senator Lindsey Graham

These bills would limit automatic citizenship to children born to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and lawful aliens serving in the U.S. military.

I am especially concerned that recent Supreme Court decisions and ongoing legal uncertainty surrounding birthright citizenship have, in effect, sent a message around the world that the United States remains open to so-called "birth tourism" and the exploitation of our citizenship laws. This has effectively put out the welcome mat for foreign nationals to come to America solely to give birth so that their children may obtain U.S. citizenship. This situation is unacceptable and undermines public confidence in our immigration system.

The Fourteenth Amendment was adopted in the aftermath of the Civil War to ensure citizenship for formerly enslaved Americans and others fully subject to the jurisdiction of the United States. Many Americans, myself included, believe it was never intended to create an incentive for illegal immigration or to grant automatic citizenship to the children of individuals who are in this country unlawfully or temporarily for the purpose of obtaining that benefit. Congress must act to address this issue and restore the original intent and integrity of American citizenship.

American citizenship is one of the most precious rights in the world and should not be exploited through loopholes that encourage illegal immigration or birth tourism.

5. Protect American Workers and Reduce Excess Work Visas

• H.R. 8443 – The End H-1B Visa Abuse Act of 2026 by Representative Eli Crane
• S. 2821 – The American Tech Workforce Act by Senator Jim Banks

Work visa programs should exist to fill genuine labor shortages, not to displace qualified American workers or suppress wages. [your state] workers deserve an immigration system that places their opportunities and economic security first.

6. Stop Asylum Abuse and Restore Border Security

The abuse of our asylum system has contributed significantly to repeated border crises. This legislation would strengthen asylum standards, address existing loopholes, and help restore order and credibility to our immigration system.

We need secure borders, enforcement of our laws, protection for American workers, and immigration policies that preserve the value of United States citizenship.
