The House Jan. 6 select committee voted unanimously to subpoena former President Trump during its public hearing on Thursday where new video evidence was presented.
"We just voted unanimously to subpoena Donald Trump to testify UNDER OATH. Democracy demands it. History deserves it," committee member Rep. Adam Kinzinger, an Illinois Republican, wrote on Twitter after the vote.
Thursday's public hearing is likely to be the last before the release of the final report.
Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, who lost her primary, was present at the hearing along with the other members of the panel.
“The vast weight of evidence presented so far has shown us that the central cause of Jan. 6 was one man, Donald Trump, who many others followed,” Cheney said.
Kinzinger said Trump privately acknowledged he had lost the election but made contrary statements publicly.

The J6 committee is just proving they're stupidity is beyond belief.
If Trump voluntarily goes before the J6 committee to testify, they might not let him speak at all. They would put him before the J6 members, and the J6 members would give short speeches, and then appear to ask Trump questions. When Trump is about to give his answers, the J6 members would then blurt out, "Reclaiming my time!". Perhaps Trump has a good strategy to combat this approach by the members.
They fear President Trump because if runs for President and wins their future will be worse than the day they sold their soul to the devil
IT'S A TRAP! The J6 committee just walked themselves into a trap. President Trump can walk into that hearing with it being a "mean tweet" heaven on Earth. He can viciously flail them, leaving them bloody and gasping. Trump can highlight their every failed attempt at denigrating him and his efforts. He can then point out the complete and utter illegality of their actions.
PRESIDENT DONALD JOHN TRUMP CAN THEN WALK OUT, IGNORING THEIR FRANTIC DEMANDS!
Trump needs to coordinate with the committee to permit an opening statement to be read into the record... if they refuse .... don't go. If they agree and then renege ... get up and leave.
Agree totally.
Trump is no fool, he has been through a lot, he knows what he is facing, he is no longer "new" to the tackticks and willingness of the left to destroy him. He knows they are trying to stop him from ever running again, and even if he had no intention to run, he will never give them the ability to stop him.
Much of what Trump went through was brought on by his terrible personnel management... and it seemed as if he could not learn.. first it's Sessions, then Barr, and Wray and Priebus and Kelly, and a host of woke General Officers promoted by the Obama Administration... Eventually, one would think Pres. Trump would learn... and fire the bad apples... starting with those who advised him to appoint them.
Due to seperation of powers the legislative branch has no powers to compel the president, the top executive. Period. End of discussion.
I can't imagine any other President agreeing to something lie this witch hunt. However it should be interesting. If they actually let him talk. I think that everyone on this sham committee should have to reimburse the American people for all the time and money they have wasted.
