June 26, 2023: Smith's team asks for Axon Investigate to convert "all types of video and audio files including lots of proprietary types we receive." Whose video? From where? Smith won't say. DOJ won't say. Axon won't say.
Axon didn't stumble into this. Its rep welcomed the order: "look forward to working with you." It shipped overnight. A year later, Axon's software was still running inside Smith's operation. Axon chose to become part of the Weaponization machine.
Meanwhile, Congress was carrying Axon's water. 47 of the 96 sponsors and cosponsors of H.R. 2189, Axon's bill, took Axon-linked money: about $97,500. Did any of them know Axon was outfitting Jack Smith with extreme alacrity in deviation from the ordinarily ponderous public contracting dotting of i’s and crossing of t’s?
H.R. 2189 would reclassify Axon’s Taser 10 as "less-than-lethal" devices instead of firearms, exempting them from the National Firearms Act and a 10–11% federal excise tax. For Axon, maker of the TASER 10, that means lower taxes, less regulation and easier sales. Simply put, money and power.
Every member backing Axon's bill should demand answers. Did Axon ever disclose its work for Smith? Will they keep pushing its agenda now? Being played once is a mistake. Staying played after the records are public is a choice.
Smith's operation went after Republicans, down to obtaining the phone records of sitting GOP Senators in violation of the Speech or Debate Clause (only AT&T resisted Jack Smith on that righteous constitutional ground and Jack Smith never tried to take them to court, admittedly conceding the point that his dragnet was unconstitutional).
