The U.S. House of Representatives Jan. 6 committee members are looking to change the election law that former President Donald Trump tried to use to convince his Vice President Mike Pence to throw out the results of the 2020 election in Congress.
The New York Times reported on Sunday that these congressional committee members are "arguing that the ambiguity of the statute puts democracy itself at risk."
The Electoral Count Act of 1887 was passed following the disputed election of Republican President Rutherford B. Hayes over Democrat Samuel Tilden, who won the popular vote. The law elaborates upon the U.S. Constitution by describing the procedure for certifying electoral votes in Congress.
Trump attorney John Eastman interpreted the act as allowing Pence to pick electors from pro-Trump states to vote to keep the 45th president in power, according to the Times.
The committee calls the act "severely flawed" and recommended changes, including "limiting the grounds for a lawmaker to object to counting a state’s votes and clarifying that the vice president’s role in the process is merely ministerial, and thus lacking the authority to unilaterally throw out a state’s votes. It has also recommended setting clearer time limits for states to choose electors," the Times reports.
Anti-Trump committee member Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said the act "is directly at issue," and changes would be recommended.

This whole scam is just another power grab by the devildemocommiecrats!!!!! They spend days on this farce yet don't have time to do anything aboiut multiple crises facing We the People. Sadly, if the gop takes congress back and mcconnell and mccarthy are in charge nthing will happen because the gop deep state establishment doesn't want anything improved for We the People. President Trump had the gop in charge for part of his term and they opposed his every move but he made improvements despite their opposition. Then theyu helped the devildemocommiecrats steal the election from We the People!!!!!

Time is past due for a "Convention Of The States " to be held . Article V of the Constitution gives the states the power to convene a convention .First order of business .TERM LIMITS on congress Second ,Limit the power of un-elected officals in ALL branches of government.
Theodore, I agree a COS is needed but I believe the communists in both political parties will just ignore anything that limits their reach just as they now ignore any limits the Constitution places on them. I think it is worth doing but have no confidence it will change anything!!!!!

If someone blithely ignores a system his safety depends on, as he effects its destruction, then being shot for doing so should be no more surprising than being attacked for sexually molesting a child openly in front of the parents.
This is not a committee to investigation the 1/6 gathering, but an offshoot of the house to change the laws and eventually the Constitution.
