The Military M-16 is capable of both semi and fully automatic operation… It a longer barrel which gives it a greater maximum effective range.
All mil-spec M-16s have military-grade barrels capable of much greater rates of continuous fire, before warping or melting down... They also have other aspects that are not part of civilian AR-15s.
The idiot who claims otherwise has no idea of what they are talking about. Commercially produced AR-15s have a much broader range of capabilities or shortcomings, depending on the manufacturer and price. Military M-16s are regulated firearms because of their full automatic capability, they require special licensing and registration. An M-16 is not an AR-15 nor is an AR-15 an assault rifle.

We all know that isn't True! The M-16 was a select fire: semi auto / 3 shot burst or fully automatic depending upon the variant issued and had either a 10", 14.5",16" or 20" barrel. They were chambered in 5.56 x 45mm NATO cartridge. The ability to spray automatic fire is deemed far more deadly although dropped by the US Miliary except Special Forces Teams due to the waste of precious ammo on the Battlefield. The Civilian AR-15 version is semi-automatic only and typically chambered in 2 different rounds either the .223 or 5.56 x 45mm NATO, they come in 16" or 20"barrels typically although longer and shorter barrels and other calibers can be purchased. But the 10", 14.5" barrels require a lengthy background and a special yearly fee for an SBR Stamp issued by the ATF. Back to my original point: The DANGER lies in Scarborough knows that fact and wants us to let out that they are identical... therefore as the left likes to call them "Evil Weapons of War" that no civilian should have.

I carried an M-14 during my tour in Vietnam. As far as deadly is concerned I'll put the 7.62 (.308) over the 5.56 (.223) any day of the week.
