  • More than 500 US military personnel have been paid for working as advisors for foreign governments
  • Retired military personnel are restricted from receiving anything of value from foreign governments that could compromise their sworn allegiance to the US
  • However if they are given permission by Congress they are allowed to carry out the lucrative work
  • Two four-star Generals, who worked for President Obama, have both worked for the Defense Ministry of Saudi Arabia
More than 500 retired U.S. military personnel — including scores of generals and admirals — have taken lucrative jobs since 2015 working for foreign governments, mostly in countries known for human rights abuses and political repression, according to a Washington Post investigation.

In Saudi Arabia, for example, 15 retired U.S. generals and admirals have worked as paid consultants for the Defense Ministry since 2016. The ministry is led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom’s de facto ruler, who U.S. intelligence agencies say approved the 2018 killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a Post contributing columnist, as part of a brutal crackdown on dissent.

Saudi Arabia’s paid advisers have included retired Marine Gen. James L. Jones, a national security adviser to President Barack Obama, and retired Army Gen. Keith Alexander, who led the National Security Agency under Obama and President George W. Bush, according to documents obtained by The Post under Freedom of Information Act lawsuits.

Most of the retired U.S. personnel have worked as civilian contractors for Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other Persian Gulf monarchies, playing a critical, though largely invisible, role in upgrading their militaries.

  • meanwhile how many homeless vets are being forced out of homeless shelters to accomodate illegal aliens

  • The restrictions on the employment of retired senior military officers by foreign nations are there to protect our National Secuirty... Most of these senior flag officers have established relationships with key foreign allies and some with our opponents... China... which could raise concerns that relate to events connected to their relationship while on active duty... from a range of personal and technical relationships and knowledge to more nefarious possibilities? (Book deal anyone?  Politicians use book deals when retired. Other government agents take lucrative shell jobs.  Hence the concerns.

The current statutes were written to avoid questions regarding senior officer's loyalty on active duty and once retired... very, very few exceptions should be made by Congress and they should be based on improving our national secuirty, by offering the technical expertise of our retired officers where needed and warranted, to our allies.

    • I agree, Col. However, that will never happen under the Luciferian Socialist Leadership of our nation.  Their goal is to bring our nation's defense down to the power level of the weakest nation, and it is starting to show with the recruitment problem. By the way, Sir, Thank you for your service.

  • Treasonous??????????

    • There are legitimate reasons to allow senior military officers to take jobs with foriegn allies... Most are not done in secret but some are... relating to defense agreements, deployed assets of a sensitive nature, and those highly classified research and other defense projects.

We must not jump to the conclusion that Congress or a Senior Military Officer who works for a foreign nation s doing so for nefarious reasons.  It is also very dangerous to release the names of those doing such work.. both personal danger and national secuirty issues may require secrecy.

    • When we are at odds with a foreign nation especially one that has the money and manpower to challenge us, getting too cozy and having personal relationships isn't a good thing.....especially when they are getting compensated, when money is involved!
This is one of the reasons naturalized citizens aren't allowed to become president......their personal ties to a foreign country that could become an adversary could allow for less advantages decisions for the USA.

  • In the US of 2022, nothing related to the government works or can be trusted. That includes the government itself, the corrupt legislative, the biased courts, law enforcement, and the military. We need to reinvent the United States from the ground up. That includes rewriting the US Constitution that provided the ultimate framework to get us into this decrepit mess.

  • This is absolutely unacceptable!  We surely need a very strong President who would put an end to this!  Same with all the lobbying groups that former military and politicians partake in.
