Before John Thune and the senate turned his back on Republican voters, there was another clear indication that both parties were working against us.
The Lois Lerner scandal was not some rogue employee acting alone. It was one of the clearest public proofs we have seen of how the deep state actually operates and how both parties protect it when their power is threatened.
In 2010-2013 the IRS systematically targeted Tea Party and conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status. Applications with words like Tea Party, Patriots, 9/12, or limited government were flagged for extra scrutiny, endless delays, and invasive questions that liberal groups rarely faced. Lois Lerner, head of the Exempt Organizations division, was at the center. Internal emails showed her calling the Tea Party matter very dangerous and directing special handling. This was a period when the FBI were classifying words like Patriot, Veteran, Gun Owner, and even Christian as domestic extremists.
This was weaponized government against citizens who dared organize against the ruling class. The Tea Party, just like MAGA later, represented a real threat to the permanent politicians in both parties. It challenged the spending, the cronyism, and the unaccountable bureaucracy.
When it blew up, the cover-up was bipartisan and irrefutable.
Lerner invoked the Fifth Amendment before Congress. The IRS claimed her hard drive crashed, wiping out key emails from the critical period. Backup tapes were later erased even after congressional subpoenas. To this day, tens of thousands of those emails have never been recovered or released. Multiple investigations confirmed the targeting happened. Yet almost no one faced real consequences. Lerner retired with full benefits although congress could have easily prevented it.
She was awarded for her silence. The machine closed ranks.
Both parties ultimately let it fade. That silence told you everything. When the bureaucracy attacks a populist movement rising from the right, the permanent government treats it as an existential threat. It is believed that the scandal wasn't that the Democrats were aiming for the TEA Party, but that Republicans were complicit, as well. What other explanation can possibly exist.
The scandal proved the deep state is real. It is career officials, protected by both sides, using the power of government to kneecap citizens who challenge the club. Until the emails are released we can never trust them.
We saw the same instincts with MAGA. Different names, same instinct to protect the machine.
The emails are still missing. The pattern is not.
This is why we primary all of the incumbents.
