When I shared that on Twitter, someone explained that it was certainly for legal reasons as the candidate could have claimed I asked favors in exchange of the position.

In previous companies, I did many interviews and used a protocol (which is way rarer than you may think, most recruiters used their guts). Happens it saved my ass being sued. My reply to threats was that I would exhibit the protocol and would have to share their performance. So, none followed through.

The best was a woman who asked "Am I the sole female candidate?" and acted as if she would be hired up to asking when she could start. She had be agreeable during the interview, but I had to tell her she was too incompetent for the job. The menace of suing because she was the sole woman got out and she got served the same defense: "please do so, I use the protocol and I will have to prove your incompetence and that's easy given the interview."

I had fun times too, like a guy who didn't knew for what he was applying, so much so I had to ask what it our company name and I had looks for the CEO witnessing the interview. He felt the question too insulting. But the candidate was really, really questionable.

I had another man coming in shorts and sandals with a vape and not groomed at the interview. The manager told me he didn't want him. I told the manager that the guy would be hidden far away from the showroom in a space customers are unlikely to go, so I would process him.
Guy didn't knew how to write PHP (a programming language), no real experience, he was a math teacher. Still told him to write in pseudo code and imagine functions that could be useful and that you would find in such languages. He aced the test and was hired. He learned the language in a couple of weeks and became the highest performer.

This world is weird 😂
