Mexican DACA Illegal Sentenced in Oregon Gun-Trafficking Operation
A Mexican citizen who entered the U.S. illegally has been sentenced to federal prison for acquiring more than 100 firearms in Oregon over the past 12 years, authorities say.
On Thursday, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon announced sentencing in the case against Vincente Cortes Quiroz, 37.
Quiroz, who was granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), purchased at least 120 guns from licensed firearms dealers across Oregon since 2014.
He then sold many of those weapons to criminals via the black market.
In many cases, Quiroz claimed he was a U.S. citizen on firearm purchase forms.
Authorities confiscated more than 70 guns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition from Quiroz's residence.
Additionally, two vehicles belonging to Quiroz were seized.
Quiroz was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison and 3 years of supervised release.
"Getting illegal firearms off the streets is a top priority. Through our collaboration with our law enforcement partners, we removed more than 70 illegal guns, making our community safer," said Scott E. Bradford, U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon.
In December, Bradford's office charged four illegal aliens from Mexico with making false statements on firearm purchase forms while stockpiling nearly 200 guns in Oregon.
