This childcare businesss ownership stuff has been happening for decades.
They also get help with home ownership via Home Ownership coaches, and just about every perk imaginable. Somali employees are even subsidized.
They also run tons of voter and civic action projects. One of their brochures says that you must be a US citizen and live in the USA TWENTY DAYS to vote? Huh?
“CAPI’s IOC 2.0 seeks to build wealth in BIPOC communities residing in Northwest Hennepin County. Key design features of CAPI’s expansion include spaces for (1) new entrepreneur training, technical assistance, and financial services to develop and expand BIPOC-led small businesses (including designated space for promising enterprises), (2) expanded public benefits eligibility screening and access assistance, tax assistance, financial coaching, and homebuyer services, (3) two social enterprises including a coffee shop/deli and an unattached greenhouse surrounded by community garden plots, (4) several community and training rooms, (5) work stations for 30+diverse staff including 2-3 tenant/ training partners, (6) patio, garden, and landscaping that connects the expansion to the neighborhood, and (7) an expanded parking lot.”
“The expanded Immigrant Opportunity Center will create a community hub for a wide variety of wealth-building services that include public benefits screening and access assistance, individualized and group financial education and services, volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) services, homebuyer workshops/ counseling, and entrepreneurship incubation. To do this, the project will leverage highly-aligned community partnerships that bring new resources to Brooklyn Center while promoting regional sustainability.”

web.archive.org/web/2025123116…MN CAPI has worked with illegals on training for Daycare startups for decades. This is from 2003 and before things expanded.
“Child Care Development Services is concerned with creating diversity and choice for parents who need to use child care, and for people who want to work in, or operate, a child care related business or service. Because Welfare Reform legislation significantly widened the already broad gap between available providers and users of child care, the Centre for Asians and Pacific Islanders made a concerted effort to help these individuals meet each others needs.”
“CAPI has also helped new providers acquire $750 grants, along with the new toys and equipment which are required to start a licensed family child care program.”
archive.is/BsG7KThese childcare startups are not available to Americans. Only certain refugee groups qualify. This one is from 2012.
“The Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement in Washington D.C. awarded a federal grant to a collaboration between Think Small, Hmong American Partnership (HAP), and CAPI USA, to provide refugee women the skills and training needed to start a childcare business.”
“Qualifications of Participants:
Must be an Iraqi, Bhutanese, Karen, or Somali refugee woman”
archive.is/1jUHjThe core mission of CAPI is increasing wealth. And their newest building addition coming up has a childcare business incubator space. CAPI admits to a long history of incubating immigrant organizations.
This is where they mention homebuyer services too. Plus tons more! You need to read this.
I bet there are a lot of Americans that would appreciate wealth building and home ownership help. 🤨
“CAPI’s core programming seeks to meet foundational needs, increase income and wealth, and elevate voices with decision-makers to advance the social and economic position of immigrant and U.S.-born BIPOC communities.”
“New entrepreneur training, technical assistance, and financial services to develop and expand small businesses in childcare (to include a childcare incubator space), urban farming, and other sectors”
“Create new social enterprises that will create immigrant-owned childcare slots, urban farming space, and allow CAPI to continue its history of incubating immigrant organizations.”
“CAPI USA’s was established in 1982 as the Center for Asians and Pacific Islanders to support Southeast Asian refugee resettlement following the Vietnam War, the organization changed its name to CAPI (pronounced ‘cap-ee’) in 2008 to be more inclusive of all refugee and immigrant communities. In 2017, CAPI moved its headquarters to the heart of Brooklyn Center via the purchase of a 10,600 sq. ft. building and adjacent vacant parcel intended to accommodate future community needs.”

web.archive.org/web/2026010116…Remember when Keith Ellison said this? Well his Division Manager works at CAPI where they run get out the vote efforts with refugees. My example here is from the CAPI site on the 2020 election.
AG Keith Ellison: “Well, the Somali community is critical. In my own election, I wouldn't be in office without the help of the Somali community.”
♦️ Coalition of 12 Minnesotan Organizations Engages 5,880 Asian & Immigrant Voters for General Elections
“TWIN CITIES, MINNESOTA – From October 31 to November 3, Ignite Minnesota Asian Power (IMAP) coalition members reached out to 83,272 Asian and immigrant community members in Minnesota to mobilize our community to vote.
Over the course of Get Out the Vote (GOTV), IMAP recruited 477 volunteer shifts and spoke to 5,880 Asian and immigrant community members over the phone and through relational organizing.”
“CAPI USA Director of Public Policy Kristina Doan states, “Through our direct efforts to call and speak to voters, we’ve been able to communicate vital information in-language on where to vote, how to turn in ballots, and how to vote safely.”
“Coalition members include: Asian American Organizing Project (AAOP), CAPI-USA, Pillsbury United Communities, Comunidades Organizando el Poder y la Acción Latina (COPAL), Hmong Americans for Justice (HAJ), Coalition of Asian American Leaders (CAAL), ReleaseMN8, Filipinx for Immigrant Rights and Racial justice Minnesota (FIRM), Karen Organization of Minnesota (KOM), SEWA-AIFW, Siengkane Lao (SKL-MN), and Vietnamese Social Services (VSS).”
