The Propel app (formerly known as Providers or Fresh EBT) is a free mobile application that lets people check and manage their government assistance benefits—such as SNAP (food stamps), WIC, cash benefits (TANF), and the Child Tax Credit. [1, 2]
Key Features
  • Balance Checking: View your EBT and WIC balances and transaction history directly on your phone without calling a phone hotline or logging into a state website. [1]
  • Benefit Tracking: Monitor deposit dates and payment predictions. [1]
  • Security Tools: Depending on your state, you can use the app to lock or unlock your EBT card, block out-of-state or online transactions, and monitor suspicious activity. [1]
  • Discounts and Savings: Find exclusive grocery deals, utility discounts, and free or low-cost services for EBT cardholders. [1]
  • Job Board: Browse local gig and full-time employment opportunities. [1]
Important Details
  • Not a Government Agency: Propel is a private company and is not officially part of any government department. It connects to state EBT portals with your permission. [1, 2]
  • Safety & Privacy: The app is free to use, uses bank-level encryption, and does not store your full card number, PIN, or Social Security number. [1, 2, 3]
  • Availability: It supports EBT card programs across 53 states and territories (balance checking is available nearly everywhere except Iowa). [1, 2]

Energy assistance

Get help with heating and cooling bills, home weatherization, and protection from utility shut-offs through LIHEAP, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
