Black community leaders in Portland are hoping to shift the focus of demonstrations in the city back to the Black Lives Matter movement instead of what they say has become a largely 'white spectacle.'
In an opinion piece for the Washington Post the president of the Portland branch of the NAACP Rev. E.D. Mondainé, said that recent nights of violence has distracted from the original intentions of the protests and that there needs to be an immediate 'refocusing'.
'Portland’s protests were supposed to be about black lives. Now, they’re white spectacle,' reads the headline in the Post.
'Unfortunately, "spectacle" is now the best way to describe Portland's protests. Vandalizing government buildings and hurling projectiles at law enforcement draw attention — but how do these actions stop police from killing black people?' Mondainé asked. 'What are antifa and other leftist agitators achieving for the cause of black equality?'

Blacks need to do more than revitalize BLM. They need to learn no one owes them anything. They need to learn how to engage the culture on the standards that exist and have existed—character, manners, gratitude, interest is others—not identifying as African or even black. Speak well with and to others. Gratitude, Gratitude. It works wonders. Responsibility. Show up. Perform. Fathers, Mothers, Families, Church, clean music and lifestyles. Achievement matters. Grammar matters. No one is stopping ANYONE from achieving. Whites don't walk around thinking while white. Imho, they are the ones who cannot stop thinking about color when I do not see that anyone cares. Except those who benefit from victimization propaganda.

We noticed this when it first began. Why have they waited so long to acknowledge this? Race relations have been turned back many years. Have heard many white people making comments about never trusting them again.

He's right. From the beginning I have said that white leftists had hijacked the protests; now NAACP is agreeing. That said, "the cause of black equality" does not need nor benefit from any of this hoorah. Black peopel have achieved equality under the law in this country. There is no "systemic racism." There are (or may be) particular issues that need to be addressed but mass demonstrations won't bring us so much as a flea-hop closer to addressing them
