The Senate on Wednesday voted to confirm Merrick Garland as U.S. Attorney General, handing the reins of the Justice Department over to a longtime federal judge who's pledged to de-politicize the agency.

He was confirmed by a vote of 70 to 30. Among the Republicans who voted in Garland's favor were Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Sens. John Cornyn of Texas and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. Republicans who voted against Garland included two likely 2024 presidential candidates, Sens. Josh Hawley of Missouri and Ted Cruz of Texas.

"America can breathe a sigh of relief that we're finally going to have someone like Merrick Garland leading the Justice Department. Someone with integrity, independence, respect for the rule of law and credibility on both sides of the aisle. He understands that the job of the attorney general is one to protect rule of law, unlike the previous attorneys general under President Trump," Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said before the vote.

  • If the states are not on board with any of his legal activities, I predict NO cooperation with Merrick Garland, rendering him less than useful for activist agendas (but he goes rogue I predict a turn of unfortunate consequences)

  • These senators voted for the radical left policy of silencing the freedom-minded and US-loving patriots who want RINOs OUT!  At least now we have a SOLID list of WHO should be PRIMARIED!

    • why yes, yes we do. what were they thinking, i wonder?

    • I'll tell you wha they were thinking!  How much more damage can I DO to AMERICA before I'm out of office?

    • It sure looks like folks whole chose not be bothered with politics because they were too busy making a living, and let others make the calls, really did not have the choice.

If you expect others to help mind your lunch they will help............. themselves.

If anyone feels that way, then I ask,"What are you going to do about it?".

  • I supported Graham. Not anymore.  I am from Seneca, SC.  I don't think this guy can be impartial and unbiased.  I think he will go left on any question.  The left has no desire to move an inch toward the middle.  Does this mean that the Republican can not ever have a majortiy in the Senate? yes.

  • we are in a serious problem I don't give a year when disaster is coming to the United State of America.

    • "we are in a serious problem I don't give a year when disaster is coming to the United State of America."

I am interested in your solution Jeff. No nuclear options please (I have dibbs on that one).

    • well, well the solution to this crisis we have here in America and the world is this number one it's a spiritual issue, number two is as people we need to understand we are different and I am not talking about the color issue here number three is we need to learn how to love one another, and love ourselves number four is we don't need to depend on government to think for us, to provide for us because we are able to do just that ourselves.

    • Hear here! But those ideas suffer from reasonableness, and a need to persevere for them, knowing that untruth is not resiliant regardless of commitment. A good number of souls amongst us are frail things and panic easily. That is why I am so Johnny on the spot to contend with gloom and doom, and undue indulging in pessimism.
