As sustained national protests to end police brutality enter their third week, East Bay Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) is pushing for legislation to unpack and address the deep-rooted history of systemic racism in the United States and sustain the Black Lives Matter movement into the future.
Last week, Lee called for the creation of a “Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Commission.” The proposed commission would have a broad advisory goal, asking the United States to address a legacy of oppression beginning 400 years ago with slavery. It would then offer recommendations to catalyze progress in education, health care, employment, Social Security and veteran benefits, land ownership, financial assistance, food security, wages, voting rights, the justice system, and many other tenets of American life distorted by the lasting impacts of racism.
“The murder of George Floyd and the current COVID-19 crisis illustrate once again the painful and dangerous legacy that white supremacy has had in our country, and the desperate need to fully acknowledge and understand how our history of inequality continues today,” Lee said in an announcement last week.

What a bunch of hogwash! I thought I'd seen stupidity but this tops it. I will never apologize for being white, nor will I feel guilty for the blacks because I didn't do anything to them. They need to get rid of the victim mantra and start living like responsible human beings and stop committing crimes and they won't get hurt. What do they expect? Do they think they should be able to committ a crime and nothing happen? Just walk away? Do they think they should be exempt from everything? Not in my book.

When you see mostly black people destroying towns, businesses, stealing, burning, killing and injurying police officers and follow citizens, it is very hard to admire or respect them!! What do you expect? And then the stupid politicians and even cops are kneeing down to them and in one instance washing their feet!!! What the heck? Just give them your homes and you go protect them. This is so out of control! I am sorry the Geporge Floyd was killed, but we are not talking about an innocent man. Since when do we put a conficted criminal in a higher place than police officers in this country? How many memorial services have there been for past president, slain officers and war heroes? Stop the madness! I'll tell you what, there is a lot less "white supremacy" than there is "black lifes mattet. Can you imagine, if you painted White life matter" on the streets?
