This is the shocking story of how the swamp protects it's own interests - and rigs the game against YOU.
On May 3, 2023, Oklahoma State Treasurer Todd Russ published a blacklist of firms that could not do business with Oklahoma pension funds. Blackrock was on that list. This was part of an effort by Gov. Kevin Stitt and State Treasurer Russ to protect the state from BlackRock and other woke ESG firms who care more about destroying oil and gas jobs and forcing businesses to adopt affirmative action hiring than maximizing their clients' returns.
But BlackRock wasn't going to stand down and accept the State of Oklahoma's wishes. They get rich playing with the people of Oklahoma's money, and there is nothing they won't do to keep their access to it.
Records obtained by the American Accountability Foundation show that two days before the list dropped, Pat McFerron, BlackRock's lobbyist in Oklahoma, met with Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready. McFerron and Mulready go way back. Not only do records obtained by AAF show them directly texting each other like old pals, McFerron’s lobbying firm, CMA Strategies, literally bragged on X about helping Mulready become Insurance Commissioner. https://x.com/CMAstrategies/status/1060298524083085312
On August 23rd, the board of the Oklahoma Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) voted to exempt BlackRock from the Oklahoma Treasurer’s blacklist. Glen Mulready voted in favor of the exemption. This is no coincidence. This is corruption, plain and simple.
BlackRock hired a lobbyist with special access to state officials to call in chits with their friends. In this case even before the ink was dried on the BlackRock blacklist, swamp lobbyists were recruiting lawmakers to carry BlackRock's water. Commissioner Mulready’s behavior, and his relationship with BlackRock lobbyists, must be fully investigated. He must be held accountable for betraying the people of Oklahoma.
