Robert E. Lee statue melted in secret ceremony, to be remade into 'inclusive' public artwork

The statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee in downtown Charlottesville has not only been torn down but also melted down in a secret ceremony. The Confederate statue was removed following the 2017 Charlottesville riot and will now be replaced with public artwork that is more "inclusive."

The Washington Post reported that the Robert E. Lee statue was "being cut into fragments and dropped into a furnace, dissolving into a sludge of glowing bronze."

The outlet reported that the destruction of the Confederate monument was done in secrecy – the name and location of the foundry were not revealed to the public for fear of retribution. The group transforming the Confederate statue said they have already been the victims of "past threats."

The owner of the foundry said, "The risk is being targeted by people of hate, having my business damaged, having threats to family and friends. Yet when you are approached with such an honor, especially to destroy hate, you have to do it."

    Such abuse of Historic monuments speaks to the ignorance and malicious hate held by the left. I wondered if they had the State and or local government's permission and lawful right to destroy and appropriate this historic monument.

    Many such monuments are PROTECTED BY LAW from such arbitrary destruction and abuse... if this monument was under such protection the law must be enforced and those involved prosecuted.

    This jackass states that when approached with such an honor, especially to destroy hate, you have to do it.  This jackass does not know history, he definitely knows nothing about Robert E. Lee. Lee did more to bring the country back together after the war than any other person.  The jackass that melted down the statue should be tried.  The leadership of Charlottesville should be tried for the destruction of public property.  The foundry should be closed and torn down.  How did Virginia let these hateful actor do what they did to our history without any citizen getting a voice in the matter?

    Those who melted down and took down the statue should be put in jail.  They did not pay for the statue. They destroyed property that did not belong to them.  Apparently, they think they can erase the Civil War from history.  They have no idea that by doing that, the chance of repeating it is great.  Will the socialists, progressive, commie Dems ever learn?
