San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott said he intends to sever an agreement with the San Francisco District Attorney’s office spelling out the DA’s lead role in investigating police use-of-force incidents, in-custody deaths and police shootings.
The agreement was originally struck in 2019 in response to public concerns that the police department should not investigate themselves following such incidents. Police and the DA’s office renewed the agreement last year.
The rift stems from a police use-of-force case against Officer Terrance Stangel, who is facing criminal battery and assault charges for allegedly beating a man with a baton. The incident occurred while Stangel and other officers responded to a domestic violence report.
Last week, Stangel’s attorney argued that the case should be dismissed due to what she called “misconduct” in the DA’s handling of the case. In a pretrial hearing, DA Investigator Magen Hayashi testified that she felt she could be fired if she did not sign the affidavit against Stangel as prosecutors wished, and was instructed not to share information with police investigating the underlying domestic violence case.

It's not the police who need to be re-trained, it's the public! In general, we have grown into a mouthy, self important, cell phone wielding, vulgar, uncivil society with little personal responsibility and a “it's all about me attitude”. We are now in a society where many children grow up with missing parents, no boundaries, no religious or moral values and bottom line, lowered respect for law enforcement!
When an officer says "Put your hands up”, then SHUT UP and PUT YOUR HANDS UP! Don't reach for something in your pocket, your lap, your seat and above all, DO NOT RUN!!
There's plenty of reasons for a police officer to feel threatened, there have been multiple assaults on police officers nation wide. Comply with the officer, have your day in court if necessary. Don't mouth off, fight, or refuse to comply... that escalates the situation! In short, if you resist, you WILL lose!
Police officers are our sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters. They're black, white, brown, all ethnicities, all faiths, male and female, they are us! They see the worst side of humanity, the raped children, the bloody bodies of traffic accidents, the bruised and battered victims of domestic violence, homicide victims... you name it, they’ve seen it, day after day.
They work holidays while we have festive meals with our families. They miss school events with their kids, birthdays, anniversaries, all those special occasions in life that we take for granted. They work in all types of weather, under dangerous conditions, for relatively low pay. They have one of the few careers that doesn’t guarantee they will be alive at the end of the day, they didn’t sign up for this!
They have extensive training, but they are still human. When there are numerous attacks on them, they become hyper vigilant for a reason, in short, they have become targets. When a police officer encounters any person, whether at a traffic stop, a home confrontation, an arrest, whatever... that situation now has the potential to become life threatening. You, Mr & Mrs / Miss Civilian, have the responsibility of keeping the situation from getting out of control.
Many law enforcement officers are former Veterans. They've been in service to this nation most of their lives, whether on the battlefield or protecting us here at home. They are the only thing that stands between us and anarchy on our streets. If you see an officer that needs assistance, do what you have to. INSTEAD OF GRABBING YOUR CAMERA, TAKE THE TIME TO PRAY FOR THESE PEOPLE!
If you want to protect your family and your children, teach them to respect our laws AND our law enforcement! While your at it, take your family to church!

Today the children run the world, they dictate how parents deal with things, it is incredible that adults gave up their authority so they can be buddies with their kids!
