This senator has needed to retire for several decades. As long as he has paper and ink to keep printing money he thinks he is OK. He is also a socialist, progressive, liberal commie. Does Congress think we are STUPID or are they just incorrigible... We can keep the debt ceiling where it is without defaulting on the current debt... Paying on the debt doesn't require raising the debt ceiling unless the interest payments are more than the current revenue stream. If our payments are more than the current revenue stream we must ... cut discretionary spending and reduce all non-essential social services: food stamps, education loans and assistance to the states, federal housing and rental assistance, ALL assistance to Illegal Aliens, and terminate foreign aid, etc., until the interest payments on the debt can be made from current revenue.
We could open up all federal oil leases and increase the revenue the governmetn takes from the production of oil... enough money is there to pay off our debt if managed properly.
No more monetary easing... printing currency to run the government without direct congressional approval... runaway spending by bureaucrats who ignore the budget must stop and the bureaucrats involved fired. Reduce the salaries of all federal employees across the board or lay off as many workers as is necessary to raise the revenue to pay our debts.
Do what households do... cut their expenses and if necessary get rid of items they can no longer afford. Government workers are not guaranteed employment and need to be subject to layoffs... start with temporary civil service positions being terminated and then mandate across-the-board cuts until the revenue needed to pay our debts is raised without lifting the debt ceiling.
We are not threatening default dumb a@#$ we want reasonable spending reductions so let's stop the B.S. throw grandma off the cliff crap and Go to Work across the Isle. Shut up!!!
