announces visa restrictions targeting foreign nationals accused of corruption and narcotrafficking across the Western Hemisphere — including publicly designating Bolivia’s Attorney General Roger Mariaca for significant corruption. The Trump administration announced a new visa restriction policy targeting foreign nationals who undermine democratically elected governments through corruption or narcotrafficking, along with their immediate family members.
The restrictions are being implemented immediately in support of fellow Shield of the Americas participants Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
According to the State Department, the actions include:
•Bolivia: Existing visas revoked for 12 nationals and their families, including prosecutors, judges, a former justice minister and a police colonel. Nine additional Bolivian nationals and their families were also rendered generally ineligible for visas.
•Colombia: Visas revoked for two nationals and their families, including Senator Martha Isabel Peralta Epieyú and businessman Euclides Antonio Torres Romero.
•Ecuador: Visas revoked for two nationals and their families.
•Peru: Visa revoked for Lima constitutional court judge Juan Carlos Núñez Matos and his family.
Separately, the State Department publicly designated Bolivia’s Attorney General Roger Mariaca for significant corruption, making him and his immediate family members generally ineligible to enter the United States.
The State Department alleges Mariaca abused his public positions by soliciting and accepting bribes to facilitate narcotrafficking and helping violent criminals evade justice.
