It is not just teacher's unions. It is the Board of Directors pushing down from on top to Admin, who push down on top of Deans, then Chairs, then faculty. My college had and has no union. It is not always the teachers who even have a say. They do not, in all likelihood. There is a system and hierarchy of authority, like in a business, and like someone said, "It's a big club, and you ain/t in it."
