{ townhall.com } ~ Lately it seems that we conservatives can't win even when we're winning. But the country is under siege, so we cannot indulge the luxury of being discouraged.

This year has been one body blow after another to the nation we love. First, there was the coronavirus, and we thought, "How can this get any worse?" Then came the economic shutdown and the incalculable pain and suffering it brought. Next were the riots, the radicals' unopposed seizure of a section of Seattle and the maniacal efforts throughout the country to defund the police. Now a series of rulings from the "conservative" Supreme Court are wreaking untold havoc on the Constitution and the rule of law.

It wouldn't take a Christian fanatic or an excitable conspiracist to conclude that America is now the target of an intense spiritual onslaught -- brought on by its own rampant descent into decadence.

The left has been at war with America as founded for decades, and it has made great progress in transforming our culture and institutions. Leftists are activism-oriented and relentless. They pursue their goals 24/7, exhausting their less activist and less calculating opponents, and advance their agenda by sheer attrition.

But a more important factor in the left's success is the depressing naivete of too many conservatives about its ultimate aims. If you underestimate the extremism and determination of your opponents, how can you counter them?

Perhaps one silver lining emerging from the Democrats' enabling of the proliferating lawlessness in America is that unsuspecting patriots are finally awakening to the horrors facing us and the left's cynical exploitation of them.

The virus isn't red or blue, but the left immediately weaponized it against President Donald Trump, their endless efforts to remove him having failed. From the beginning of this scourge, it was obvious they were more interested in demonizing Trump than in defeating the virus.

The media and the Democratic Party bludgeoned Trump instead of working with him to combat the virus. They excoriated him for responding too slowly when, had he listened to them, he wouldn't have implemented his travel bans, which objectively slowed the spread in the United States.

They savaged him for defying the medical experts, when he was following their advice at every turn, including in shutting down the economy. Though they have shut the economy down even more severely in their blue-controlled states, they preposterously blamed the inevitable economic downturn on him.

Though Trump and virtually all of America condemned the senseless killing of George Floyd, the extreme left seized the moment not merely to protest officer misconduct but to condemn the nation for "systemic racism," "white privilege" and "white supremacy."

Leftist activists converted the protests into riots, looting and violence, and Democratic leaders refused to condemn it and instead fanned the flames lit by the organized mob. They have joined the movement to topple monuments and erase all other unpleasant aspects of American history -- as if they never occurred.

This is nothing new for the Democratic Party. It was shocking that its key figures dared to publicly support some of the certifiably insane provisions of the Green New Deal -- provisions too fantastical for even infants to endorse. It was surreal that some of their leading presidential candidates openly supported the abolition of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. But this widespread move to defund the police takes the insanity to French Revolution-crazy levels.

How can parents not fear for their kids' future? How can an entire political party give itself over to a lawless mob? How can it condone the systematic suppression of political speech by Hollywood, the corporate left and social media giants?

Do rank-and-file liberals want to live in a country whose culture destroys people who won't toe the leftist line? Ironically, it will only be a matter of time before the mob they legitimized will turn on them, as surely as the French revolutionaries turned on their mastermind Maximilien Robespierre. For an unquenchable mob hellbent on eradicating all traditions, systems and laws, nothing is sacred, and no one is immune. Examples already abound. Just ask actor Mark Duplass and author J.K. Rowling. How can anyone be blind to this fascism? How, indeed, unless we really are witnessing a raging spiritual war.

Note to conservatives: If you have been casually dismissing leftist extremism, maybe now you will wake up. Can't you hear the alarms blaring?

Too many on the right also mistakenly believe that this Democratic frenzy and leftist unrest is all based primarily on their contempt for President Donald Trump. He has made them crazy, and they'll do anything to get rid of him. Then everything will return to normal.

Yes, he makes them crazier, more desperate and more unreasonable -- mainly because he's fighting them hammer and tongs -- but he didn't make them leftists, and leftists don't need any prompting to unleash their hell on America. It stands for everything they hate.

With or without Trump, their goals remain the same. But without Trump, their chances of finally undoing America immeasurably increase.

I began this column saying we can't afford to be discouraged. We can't. But that doesn't mean we can afford to be blind to the gravity of the threats we face. Let's wake up and rededicate ourselves to preventing the destruction of America. Don't ever lose hope. My bet is the silent majority is bigger than ever and that we'll see that in November. Stay in the fight like your children's future depends on it -- because it does.

  • Our schools have done this over the yrs.   That is no one.

Two: WE need to do more is right.   I realize that many are awake now but that is not enough.  Many blue state govs are still controlling us w/the slow opening of their states we know who they are AND MUST RID OURSELVES OF THEM.   NJ;CA;IL;OR;MI; NY;PA; VA; ME; AND ON AND ON..  WE HAVE TO STOP RE-ELECTING THE SAME PEOPLE FOR DECADES THAT HAS TO END.  THE GOOD ONES WE MUST KEEP ELECTING.  LIKE JIM JORDAN; MATT GAETZ AND SO ON.

TRUMP HAS TO BE RE-ELECTED WE KNOW THAT THE LEFT IS GOING TO TRY TO PUT SLEEPY CHINA/UKRAINE JOE IN BY MAIL THAT MUST NEVER HAPPEN.

    • Bonnie

All you have said is true. We must not elect the dems and replace them with republicans who will do the will of the people. As Rush said, those governors of those states are tryng to kept their state shut down to distroy the ecomony and then blame Trump so he would not be re-elected.

    • Ruby...

What you just described above and in recent posts.. are acts of insurrection by radical left organizations and select governors and mayors... In addition, the COVID19 response by certain States is an act of war, not the administration of lawful political differences.  Anyone engaging in an activity to destroy our nation's economy is conducting an asymmetric act of war against the US.  Anyone who aids and abets insurrection is waging war against the United States.

The governors and mayors who are aiding and abetting insurrection and deliberately taking acts to extend the economic hardship resulting from the COVID19 pandemic are engaged in war and insurrection.  The President needs to declare martial law in those States where insurrection is our of control. Followed up with an immediate move to arrest the Governors and Mayors of the states and cities experiencing insurrection... and all those involved in the subversive activities of the past 4yrs... and longer.

The problems with riot and insurrection will only increase... until the President comes down hard on both the political leaders and those physically engaged in insurrection it will only grow worse... culminating in serious disruptions in our November elections.  Leading to the very possible dispute of ANY OUTCOME... by both sides in the Presidential election.  That is why the President needs to act NOW now to stop the insurrection and to indict the key political actors in both the deep state and this insurrection.. not latter.

The problem is much deeper than the active incitement of insurrection and sedition by the Democrats... it is the extreme silence by the GOP and the almost willingness to allow such lawlessness to continue.  Where are the defenders of America's heritage, its laws, and the Constitution?  Where are the GOP leaders urging the President to stop the violence by using whatever means necessary? Why are the GOP leaders failing to unify their response calling for the restoration of law and order and martial law where the state and local authorities will not enforce the law.  Why is the President failing in his duty to guarantee the security of the public against domestic violence and lawlessness?

The GOP must take part of the blame for its absence from the fray... its no show on the field to defend our Constitution, and the rights of those citizens whose homes and businesses were set aflame or looted and destroyed.  Where were the calls for martial law and the arrest of Mayors and Governors for aiding and abetting riot, arson, and mob violence against innocent civilians?  The GOP is a disgrace... not much better than the Democrats.  They had better get on the RIGHT side of the war being waged before they are painted with the colors of the enemy...

You need to be patience. I am sure Trump is waiting and to see what the mob is doing. There are alot of questions not being answered and actions not taken. And if Trump did act upon those mobs and BLM he would be blame as a dictator by the dems. Just look at what liar-Pelose and the dems are doing to our history.and the young.

    • P/S Ruby

The question is not what the left is doing...we all know they are busy burning down the United States... the Question is what is the PRESIDENT DOING TO STOP IT...   With each passing day the left becomes bolder and the insurrection more threatening... it is the Constitutional duty of the President to TAKE CARE that the Laws of the United States be faithfully executed.  Article 2, Section 3 of the US Constitution.

The President is charged with the duty to put down insurrection, invasion, and domestic violence... wherever and whenever the States are unable or unwilling to do so... He has the duty to ensure the People have a Republican form of government.  See Article 4, Section 4.

The President has the unilateral Constitutional power to declare a national emergency and to establish martial law where necessary to enforce the laws of the United States and too put down insurrection and domestic violence. See references to the US Constitution above and Article 2, Section 2, Clause 1.  There are several SCOTUS rulings giving the President the power to declare martial law in the US... in fact, Congress has NEVER DECLARED MARTIAL LAW it has always been the President.

See article on this site regarding Martial Law: https://teapartyorg.ning.com/forum/martial-law-who-may-establish-it...

Martial Law.... who may establish it and under what authority?
Martial law may be declared by Congress or the President... Congress may declare martial law under Article I, Section 8, Clause 15, of the Constituti…
    • Really, Rudy... we are to be patient while our house is on fire?

Tell that to those watching their house burn down...  while the Fire Chief waits for the right time to fight the fire?  The People are tired of their Fire Chief lecturing them about patience... while their house burns down.

Pres. Trump needs to do what he can NOW... indict the top 5-10 individuals flaunting the law... Didn't he just promise indictments were imminent?  Oh, that's right such promises have become routine only to never take place.

Pres. Trump's record on the prosecution of the deep state is TERRIBLE and is approaching inexcusable.  The Fire is growing, the Swamp is expanding and we are told the timing isn't right?  That won't fly here and with most individuals RIGHT OF CENTER... The People expect responsible law enforcement; not a two-tiered legal system. One for the people and another for the new age aristocracy... the political class.

Where are you getting your information form. You sound like you are getting your inform from a liberal news outfit. I hope I am wrong but it sure feel like it.

Trump has the military on stand by and he has asked the governors and mayors of those state to call up the military. but of course they have not acted and do believe Trump will  use the military.

    •  the use of federal troops to quell civil unrest and civil war has been rare. However, it has happened under several presidents, not just Abraham Lincoln, who had to use the military to stop a full-scale rebellion.

Both Presidents George H.W. and George W. Bush, respectively invoking the Insurrection Act of 1807, sent federal troops to respond to emergencies. President Dwight D. Eisenhower used the act to have federal troops enforce federal civil rights laws. Before that, Presidents Herbert Hoover and Woodrow Wilson used federal troops to respond to emergencies.

Two laws deal primarily with federal troops in domestic matters, according to the Congressional Research Service.

Under the Insurrection Act of 1807, Congress delegated authority to the president to call the military during an insurrection or civil disturbance. Under one provision of the law, a president can use the military to suppress an insurrection at the request of a state government in order to protect states against “domestic violence.”

After the passage of the 14th Amendment, another provision was added to the Insurrection Act that allows the president to use the military without the consent of a state government to suppress any “insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy.”

    • Rudy...

The Governors and Mayors need to be arrested not cajoled and pampered... they are inciting insurrection, and armed insurrection is treason.  This is very serious and the President is not acting as if our nation's house is on fire.

It appears to me that the President is getting bad advice and is unable to arrive at the very difficult task of declaring many of the Governors, Mayors, politicians and media outlets as TREASONOUS individuals supporting insurrection.  The President will have to make a  decision... too, permit a disastrous rigged November election or to fulfill his CONSTITUTIONAL DUTIES as enumerated in my former posts... too guarantee a Republican form of Government to the people in the face of insurrection, and domestic violence when the STATES WILL NOT.
