Darrin Bell, the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist behind 'Candorville' and 'Rudy Park,' has been arrested in California after authorities discovered 134 videos of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), including AI-generated content - a first under California’s new law.
The investigation began when 18 files were uploaded to an online platform, leading law enforcement to Bell’s home.
He is now being held on $1 million bail, with a court appearance set for tomorrow.
Bell, who made history in 2019 as the first African American journalist to win the Pulitzer for Editorial Cartooning, has long been praised for tackling issues like racism and social justice.
