The NY Times story on Trump’s taxes is a giant mischaracterization to anyone with a basic understanding of the business/corporate finance. Here is a quick take of questionable items in their story.
- NY Times Uses “Tax Return Data” & Not “Tax Returns”
When the NY Times talks about acquiring Trump’s ‘taxes,’ they are careful to use the word “data” and not “returns.”
Examples:
“The New York Times has obtained tax-return data”
“The tax data examined by The Times”
“The Times examined and analyzed the data”
Everyone is assuming the NY Times has the full tax returns. But the way words are carefully used in the NY Times article makes this assumption suspect. First, the NY Times outright says they have three pages of tax returns from 1995 (acquired in 2016), that was mailed to the anonymously. If they had access to decades of Trump’s tax returns, they most likely would say they have ‘tax returns’ instead of using the phrase ‘tax return data.’
It’s suspect they have the full returns. They may have a tax record of some sort for the year, but not certified returns. And that distinction can be important.
. - Assuming the have a tax transcript from he IRS, it doesn’t provide enough data for some of their conclusions. The NY Times has to make a lot of assumptions and rely on 3rd party statements that were made without evidence to connect the dots.
. - The article makes some big assumptions as they interpret this data. Some of these assumptions are either misleading, not provable or flat out wrong.
For the sake of argument, let’s assume the have the tax transcripts, but not the tax returns. A tax transcript is a line by line summary of the tax return. It doesn’t include full schedules or other attachments, which would offer better context for their analysis. And because they lack a lot of specifics, they have to make some fairly big assumptions. Their assumptions almost always errs on the side of making Trump look bad (I list specific examples later).

Nothing to see. Trump said it was fake news. End of story.
Let's keep on supporting him no matter what and celebrate another landslide win with him in November. Trump 2020!
As long as he didn't break the tax law, and it is for damn sure that if he had the obummer IRS would have used it against him in 2016, I don't care how much he paid.
Tax returns are private information, I don't have to make mine public, why the hell should Trump, or anyone else have to release them to the public?
BTW, pretty damn simple fix, get rid of the income tax. Put a consumption tax on everything but a few necessities like food for the home, OTC and prescription drugs, utilities and a reasonable minimum home and vehicle cost. That way people that make a lot of money and people that work under the table, will pay taxes on the majority of their income. Want to pay less taxes, buy a chevy instead of a buick.
Why isn't anyone interested in Obama taxes?
Offhand, I would say this leak of Trumps' tax information is a blatant prosecutable criminal offense and requires pursuit of this Presidents privacy violation by the Justice department.
Trump already said it was fake news. Since this article is based on fake tax returns, the New York Times needs to be prosecuted for disseminating lies about the President of the United States of America. This is a serious crime (usurption, sedition!) and the newspaper needs to be bankrupted, as should all media outlets who reported the same fake news.
Don't go looking into the Biden crime family. Shady dealing with China, cushy mega millions in money for do nothing jobs, dealing with prostitutes, tax dollars for relatives, drugs, meanwhile they crucify Trump for legal tax deductions. Don't forget bidens S corporations to evade taxes. Need I say more. I could go on for days.
the Democrats have nothing to do but to destroy Donald Trump.
I highly suspect that what they have is some note/letter from that relative of Trumps who has published a BS book about how she was "CHEATED' out of her inheritance! The NYT being the garbage dump of news that it is, jumped all over this as 'proof' that Trump didn't pay his taxes. Trump says he DID pay them, and that the IRS is not his best friend. Besides, if he hadn't PAID his taxes, there wouldn't BE any tax returns! The Left is always quick to jump on ANY rumors about Trump! I believe Trump! I will also vote for Trumps re-election, even if he didn't pay his taxes! By the same token, I would NEVER vote for Biden, even if he DID pay his taxes! so there!
That's a great attitude. We need to believe Trump no matter what and we need to support him under all circumstances. I'd give your post 100 thumbs up if that was possible.
How about we demand to see every government employees tax returns the year they go into government service, and their bank accounts the day they leave government service? Additionally lets see politicians tax returns every 4-5 years, would love to see Biden's returns.
