Prosecutors will argue at trial a book by James Comey shows he had a state of mind to "k*ll President Trump" thru "stochastic terrorism" (in Comey's own words) by posting an image "86 47" to his 200k Instagram followers. Comey's novel describes a podcaster who "through the wonder of the Internet" convinces his fans of "k*lling his foes."
"It's where a charismatic leader jacks people up, but through the wonder of the Internet, avoids a direct connection to what comes next," Comey wrote in "FDR Drive," which came out just five days after Comey posted his seashell threat in May 2025, less than a year after two attempts on Trump's life, inclg one in which he was shot in the ear.
"He knows an attack will follow his words but he closes his eyes so he can say he wasn't part of it," Comey wrote, providing more evidence of intent.
"People are susceptible to [social media] messages that offer a sense of purpose through violence," Comey also wrote, and because those messages are "in your pocket reaching you constantly through your buzzing phone [i]t's an order of magnitude more effective and more dangerous."
