In case you are wondering why seemingly every school district in Indiana is having a referendum to increase school funding via property taxes, it’s largely because of this. Indiana taxpayers spend roughly 2 billion dollars on English As a Second Language students, and almost all of that is subsided by local residents via property taxes. Under Biden, the number of students who didn’t know English grew extremely rapidly, not it has mostly leveled off but it is a still a massive massive cost for local school systems.
