Q: Why do you put a hyphen in the word God (i.e. G-d)?
A: The spelling of G-d is a common practice among the Jewish community, especially among the Orthodox. The purpose is to show honor to the name. According to this custom, it would be sacrilege to throw away, set on the floor/ground, or otherwise mistreat anything containing the word “God”. To prevent this, God is hyphenated on some of our outdoor signs. This is not necessarily our custom, but was done to not offend the part of our Jewish family who are Orthodox.
