House Settled Lawsuit After Meeks Fired Staffer Who Reported Sexual Assault Related To Donor

Gregory Meeks fired... a staffer in retaliation for reporting that she was sexually assaulted at a business tied to a campaign contributor, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned. Andrea Payne, then a congressional aide in the New York Democrat’s Queens office, filed a complaint with the Office of Compliance, and Meeks fired her weeks later. Frankly, I’m delighted that Al Franken didn’t resign from the Senate. Because Minnesota has a liberal governor, he would simply have been replaced by someone else who would have opposed Donald Trump at every turn, someone who surely would have been better positioned to claim the moral high ground. Which would have narrowed the possibilities down to just about everyone in the state.
You may have noticed that 36 former female staffers and cast members of “Saturday Night Live” have come forward as character witnesses for Mr. Franken. All that tells you is that for some women, being an advocate for Planned Parenthood and abortions on demand trumps everything else, including the truth.
For openers, it’s absurd to believe that Franken behaved like a perfect little gentleman when he was in show business and surrounded by all those nubile young women, but only turned into a sexual degenerate once he became a senator.
For another thing, it’s not only when it comes to sex that Franken has shamed himself. Like most liberals who campaign to raise everyone else’s taxes, Franken has been fined more than once for failing to pay his own.
He has also confessed to using cocaine when he wrote and performed on “SNL,” but, then, it was well known that both cocaine and heroin were readily available to the cast and crew of the show. The only surprise was that John Belushi was the only one who died of his addiction.
● The state attorney generals of Pennsylvania and California are still going after the Little Sisters of the Poor, whose sole mission in life is to provide aid and comfort to the elderly and destitute.
Even after the Supreme Court has freed the Little Sisters from the onerous burden of providing its employees with contraceptive pills and devices, these anti-Catholic bigots are out to garner headlines by forcing these religious ladies to subsidize stuff that is both cheap and readily available.
It is petty and spiteful, just like the homosexuals who ferret out religious bakers, florists and photographers, in order to compel them to play an active role in the absurd farce known as same-sex marriage
● Speaking of which, devout Christians are often heard complaining that Christmas is too materialistic, whereas a lot of Jews think it’s too religious for their taste. Perhaps because I’m not religious, it’s my favorite holiday. In fact, I think it’s just about perfect. It is associated with great music, both popular and sacred; beautiful decorations; and it’s readily available to every American, no matter his or her religion or the degree of their religiosity.
● There was a campaign being waged just prior to Thanksgiving to ensure that politics would not be discussed at the dinner table. That is probably an equally good idea when Christmas rolls around. To keep the peace, politics should definitely be avoided; although a stronger case could be made for simply avoiding liberals.
● In Seattle, a great many employees started screaming bloody murder when the uberliberal mayor and city council members raised the city’s minimum wage to $11-an-hour, because it cost them their subsidized housing. In retaliation, they began working fewer hours in order to remain beneath the poverty line.
When the minimum wage rises over the next few years to $15-an-hour, you can expect them to stop working altogether. Whenever liberals pass their agenda items, it’s always difficult to tell if the terrible consequences are intentional or simply inevitable.
● A friend let me know that in a current TV commercial for Chevrolet, they have people gazing adoringly at the new models, and preface it with the on-screen words: “Real people, not actors.”
He considered the distinction kind of ironic. I, on the other hand, considered it a rare case of truth in advertising.
● Over the years, I have sent messages by email or by regular mail to members of the House and Senate. Because I know it does no good for me to bother contacting those who theoretically represent me because they are all leftists, I try to reach out to Republicans. But unless you live in their state or district, they ignore you. Until, of course, they’re running for re-election and they start reaching out for your money.
It illustrates my problem with representative government. It encourages these overpaid buffoons to think in terms of what’s best for Iowa or Florida or a congressional district in Nevada or Texas rather than what’s best for the nation at large.
● Bert Black let me know that he long ago concluded that you can never go wrong by underestimating the intelligence of the general public. If he had limited his statement to those on the Left, I would heartily agree.
It continues to astonish me how consistently wrong progressives are about everything. And if that’s not amazing enough, their monumental arrogance somehow manages to overshadow their ignorance. Which is why they never feel it incumbent to admit they’re wrong even when, for instance, in spite of Al Gore’s insistence that the oceans would rise 20 feet by 2010, the passage of time proves they’ve swallowed and then parroted a lie the size of an iceberg.
● After answering a question about the estranged relationship between me and my son in a recent article, I heard from a couple of subscribers.
The first person thought the woman who had asked the question was rude and insensitive. I defended her: “I thought the question was appropriate. After all, I had invited questions, without any qualifiers. Besides, she did apologize if she was delving into painful areas. I could have ignored her question; it’s not as if she held a gun to my head. But I figured I’m not the only person with the problem of a son or daughter who has gone astray. I hoped my response would at least assure others that they’re not alone in having had to cope with ungrateful children.”
The second person thought I was gracious to answer such a personal question. Even if I had said I’d answer any that came my way, her assumption was that I was referring to questions about my writing or my experiences in the world of entertainment.
I confessed I assumed the same, but I don’t object to answering personal questions about myself. I have tried to the best of my ability to live my life so that I wouldn’t be ashamed to have my actions reported on the front page of a newspaper. If I’ve failed along the way, perhaps others can profit from my experience.
“People might not agree with all my decisions,” I acknowledged. “Heck, in retrospect, I wouldn’t agree with all my decisions. But I’m not ashamed of them. I never set out to hurt another person, although I admit I’ve spent many a pleasant hour plotting revenge on those who have wronged me.”
● I’ll conclude with a suggestion that might help us all get through those inevitable doldrums that confront even the most fortunate of us: When you’re down in the dumps and think things couldn’t possibly get worse, keep in mind that somewhere in the world, there is a Mr. Pulosi and a Mrs. Franken.
