Thomas Fuentes, the FBI’s special agent in charge of International Operations, noted in 2007 that Hizballah is reluctant to launch violent attacks on U.S. soil because it would hinder their overall operations: “They want to maintain a low profile by engaging in criminal activity [but] not direct attacks….They’ve not been enthusiastic about doing it on US soil because of the attention and reaction that would occur.”

That may be changing now.

One week after the FBI raided a Dearborn home in the middle of the night, a new terrorism case surfaced in New York on Thursday involving two men: a Dearborn man who allegedly received bomb-making training from a terror group and another man who allegedly plotted attacks on New York.

Samer el Debek, 37, of Dearborn and Ali Kourani, 32, of the Bronx were arrested a week ago and charged with training and working on behalf of Hizballah, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization based in Lebanon.

“FBI bomb technicians have assessed that el Debek received extensive training as a bomb-maker,” the Justice Department stated.

The charges were unsealed in Manhattan federal court on Thursday, one week after federal agents raided a Dearborn home in what they described as an operation involving national security. Sources familiar with the case tell the Free Press the raid involved el Debek, who was arrested in Livonia that same day and subsequently charged with numerous crimes — though none involved plotting attacks in New York.

In December, another Dearborn man was sentenced to five years in prison for seeking to join Hizballah in Lebanon. Also, in 2014 in a separate case, a former Dearborn resident was killed in Syria while fighting for Hizballah.

According to criminal complaints unsealed Thursday in Manhattan’s U.S. District Court, el Debek and Kourani were recruited as Hizballah operatives and received military-style training, including in the use of rocket-propelled grenade launchers and machine guns, in support of the group’s terrorist mission.

Kourani allegedly conducted surveillance of potential targets in the U.S., including military and law enforcement facilities in New York, authorities said….

El Debek, a naturalized U.S. citizen, was first recruited by Hizballah in late 2007 or early 2008. Shortly before being recruited, he expressed his support for the terror group’s leader in an e-mail and eventually received a salary from Hizballah through 2015.

For years, authorities said, el Debek received military training from Hizballah in Lebanon. From 2008 through 2104, the terror group taught him how to make bombs, handle weapons and conduct surveillance and countersurveillance.

According to the government, el Debek was trained in techniques and methods similar to those used to build the bomb that in 2012 blew up a bus in Bulgaria that was transporting Israeli tourists, killing six and injuring 32. That terror attack, the government said, was carried out by one of el Debek’s relatives.

While working for Hizballah, el Debek conducted missions in Thailand and Panama. One of his missions was to clean up explosive materials in a house in Bangkok that others had left because they were under surveillance, the government said. At the direction of Hizballah, el Debek used his U.S. passport to enter and leave Thailand so that he could travel from Malaysia to Thailand without obtaining a visa.

El Debek’s missions in Panama included locating U.S. and Israeli Embassies, casing security procedures at the Panama Canal and the Israeli Embassy and locating hardware stores where explosive materials could be purchased. After returning from a 2012 trip to Panama, el Debek’s handlers asked him for photographs of the U.S. Embassy and details about its security procedures….

SHENANGO TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — The proposed sale of the former New Castle Youth Development Center has raised alarms in Shenango Township, Lawrence County.

Little is known about the highest bidder, HIRA Educational Services, and that’s the problem. Townspeople are suspicious.

“I would hope the governor would say this is all null and void. We’re going to open this up to bidding again,” said Shirley Sallmen, a resident and critic of the state’s bidding process.

Now, three state lawmakers – Sen. Elder Vogel, Rep. Chris Sainato and Rep. Aaron Bernstine – are asking the same. They have sent a letter to Gov. Tom Wolf asking him to void the sale.

HIRA is a consultant group and their stated mission is to help Muslim schools in the U.S.

While some on social media have raised ethnic distrust and used racial epithets, the lawmakers have focused on the company’s lack of credentials and financial wherewithal.

The company bid $400,000 to purchase the 143-acre site with 13 buildings, but KDKA’s research finds that the company claims only one employee in an apartment in Newark, New Jersey, and has not reported income of more than $50,000 in each of the past three years.

In addition, the state of New Jersey has revoked HIRA’s non-profit status for failing to submit required financial reports for two consecutive years. KDKA’s Andy Sheehan called the company phone number, but got only answer machine. And no one from HIRA returned the calls.

On Thursday, the Shenango Township supervisors will be holding the monthly meeting and a large crowd is expected.

Lawrence County’s state legislators are scrambling to find information about the New Jersey company that is purchasing the former Youth Development Center property in Shenango Township.

The DGS is finalizing the bid and completing the sale of the property. The process is expected to take several months. During this time, the bid will be reviewed by the state’s general counsel and the attorney general’s office.

State Rep. Aaron Bernstine was not available for comment Monday but promised to speak on the matter later this week.

The state-owned property has been idle since the YDC closed in 2013. Over the years, the asking price dropped from $4 million to $300,000. Prior attempts by the state to sell the property drew no bidders.

On its website, Hira describes itself as a consulting firm for Islamic schools. Two employees are listed on the website. President and CEO Muhammad Asif, also listed by the name Asif Kunwar. The vice-president is listed as Abdul Basit. The site says the company has adjunct staff members throughout the United States.

Although Hira submitted the highest bid, Muhammad Asif Kunwar submitted an individual bid of $300,000 for the YDC, the third and lowest bid of the three submitted. A state official said last week Kunwar did not sign the Hira bid, only his individual bid. The middle bid for $305,000, was submitted by Sumner McDaniel.

A check of Hira’s website shows that many of the links lead nowhere. An invitation to sign up for a newsletter from the company is a dead link, as are supposed links to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. Misspellings abound on the website as well as grammatical errors and awkward wordings. No one from the school has responded to repeated attempts at telephone contact, although a woman answered one of the calls and promised to relay the request for a callback. Other calls went to voicemail.

In addition, a reverse phone lookup of the phone number listed on the website resulted in the name of another man — not listed on the school’s website. Attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful. A 501c3 lookup website also listed yet another man as a contact for the business and listed a New Jersey apartment as the address.

Tensions are running so high that Thursday, people were wanded with a metal detector before being allowed into a meeting of the Shenango Township supervisors.

So many people showed up that the fire department put a safety limit on how many people were allowed inside the building. The rest sat on chairs outside.

Township supervisors started out by stressing they had nothing to do with the sale of the property. They said the state of Pennsylvania owns the YDC property, decided the way the property would be sold and accepted the bids on the property.

A proposal by an Australian Islamic group to allow “safe spaces” for young Muslims to discuss “inflammatory” issues has sparked a row.

The Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV) said such forums enabled young people’s opinions to be “respectfully and intelligently debated and challenged”.

But State Premier Daniel Andrews said he was “very troubled” by the idea of a space where people “could be radical”.

Victoria was rocked by a suspected terror attack earlier this week.

Gunman Yacqub Khayre killed a man, wounded three police officers and took a woman hostage during a siege at an apartment building on Monday night. He was later shot dead by police.

Australia has prevented a number of extremist attacks on home soil in recent years, and has been on alert amid fears over the return of Australians fighting for Islamist militant groups in Syria.

‘Rage space’

The ICV, which says it represents some 200,000 Muslims in Victoria, says the community is suffering mental health and other problems because of the widespread suspicion it faces.

It recommends, to a parliamentary inquiry into freedom of religion, funding a number of community-led initiatives – saying financial resources at the moment are concentrated mainly on national efforts to counter violent extremism.

ICV spokesman Adel Salman said they did not consider the “safe space” proposal controversial, because it is a practice that is already used to help young people in countries around the world.

“This is about good practice because the youth require an avenue to express their views in a safe environment… where they feel their views are valued, where they can be respectfully challenged and counter views presented,” he said.

He said such spaces would be “conducted with experts who are familiar with the methodology, and understand the way the conversation can be guided”.

And he criticised headlines which called the proposal “rage space” and “hate space”, saying the media had misconstrued what they were asking for.

But Premier Andrews ruled out any possibility of funding such an initiative.

“I am very troubled by the suggestion that we might have a space where people could be radical as part of a de-radicalisation programme. That makes no sense to me whatsoever”.

We are asking to see images of the person and if they are a member of the Party they will be expelled. We are asking for this to be investigated and we will always challenge this behaviour as racism of any form cannot be tolerated.'”

CNN featured academia’s Anwar Awlaki by hosting his show proselytizing for Islam (dawah). Reza Aslan (more here and here) is the exemplar of the deceptive Islamic supremacist who is widely taken as a “moderate.” He has defamed my colleagues and me in the most obscene and deceitful terms. Robert Spencer writes that he is “thus a good illustration of how people can be taken in by such snake-oil peddlers.” Aslan claims that “women enjoy complete equality in Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Turkey.” Yes, he is that kind of vicious liar — the bigger the better, and has made his career on lying, defaming and libeling me, my colleagues, and others. He has even fantasized about hate f**king me (raping) me.

CNN’s jihad pimp Reza Aslan is “a board member of a lobbying group for the bloodthirsty and genocidally antisemitic Iranian regime. Aslan tried to pass off Iran’s genocidally-minded former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a liberal reformer and has called on the U.S. Government to negotiate with Ahmadinejad himself, as well as with the jihad terror group Hamas. Aslan has even praised the jihad terror group Hizballah as “the most dynamic political and social organization in Lebanon,” and has also praised the anti-Semitic, misogynist, Islamic supremacist Muslim Brotherhood, which is dedicated in its own words, according to a captured internal document, to “eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within.” Aslan wrote: “The Muslim Brotherhood will have a significant role to play in post-Mubarak Egypt. And that is good thing.” Millions of Egyptians obviously disagree. He has also applauded and called for the forcible shutdown of the free speech of those who hates — a quintessentially fascist impulse.”

Robert Spencer adds, “Aslan has made the ridiculous claim that the idea of resurrection “simply doesn’t exist in Judaism,” despite numerous passages to the contrary in the Hebrew Scriptures. He has also referred to “the reincarnation, which Christianity talks about” — although he later claimed that one was a “typo.” In yet another howler he later insisted was a “typo,” he claimed that the Biblical story of Noah was barely four verses long — which he then corrected to forty, but that was wrong again, as it is 89 verses long. Aslan claimed that the “founding philosophy of the Jesuits” was “the preferential option for the poor,” when in reality, that phrase wasn’t even coined until 1968. He called Turkey the second most populous Muslim country, when it is actually the eighth most populous Muslim country. He thinks Pope Pius XI, who issued the anti-fascist encyclical Mit Brennender Sorge, was a fascist. He thinks Marx and Freud “gave birth to the Enlightenment,” when it ended in the late 18th century, before either of them were born. He claims that “the very first thing that Muhammad did was outlaw slavery,” when in fact Muhammad bought slaves, took female captives as sex slaves, and owned slaves until his death. He thinks Ethiopia and Eritrea are in Central Africa.

A “renowned religious scholar” such as Reza Aslan should not make such elementary mistakes. But this is, of course, the man who writes “than” for “then”; apparently thinks the Latin word “et” is an abbreviation; and writes “clown’s” for “clowns.””

CNN Drops Reza Aslan Following Anti-Trump Tweets

CNN no longer believes in “Believer,” the non-fiction series it launched earlier this year with Reza Aslan, the Iranian-American author and religious scholar.

“CNN has decided to not move forward with production on the acquired series ‘Believer with Reza Aslan,’” the network said in a statement. “We wish Reza and his production team all the best. “

Aslan came under fire earlier this month after using profanity to describe President Donald Trump in the wake of remarks the President made about the terrorist attacks on London. In the tweet, Aslan called Trump “a piece of s—” and expressed dismay at Trump’s use of the tragedy to promote his desire for a so-called “travel ban” on certain kinds of people hailing from specific countries in the Middle East. The author later apologized, saying, “I should have used better language to express my shock and frustration at the president’s lack of decorum and sympathy for the victims of London. I apologize for my choice of words.”

“Believer” would have entered a second season if it had been picked up.

“Obviously I am very disappointed in this decision. ‘Believer’ means a great deal to me and to the countless viewers it’s reached. Its message of religious tolerance and exploration is extremely important right now. I am deeply grateful to CNN for giving me the opportunity to launch the show and to amplify my voice on their network. I am especially grateful to the legion of people within the Turner organization who worked so hard to make the show a hit series,” said Aslan, in a prepared statement. ” However, in these politically charged times, the tenor of our nation’s discourse has become complicated, and I recognize that CNN needs to protect its brand as an unbiased news outlet. Similarly, I need to honor my voice. I am not a journalist. I am a social commentator and scholar. And so I agree with CNN that it is best that we part ways. I look forward to partnering with another platform in the future to continue to spread my message. I wish CNN all the best.”

CNN has had to grapple with other incidents of hosts and talent expressing political opinions. Late last month, the Time Warner-owned network said it would no longer feature comedienne Kathy Griffin as part of its annual New Year’s Eve broadcast, a day after pictured surfaced on social media of Griffin holding a bloody head resembling President Trump.

CNN has a significant interest in maintaining a middle-of-the-road stance to its viewers. Being non-partisan is at the root of the cable-news network’s brand, while rivals Fox News Channel and MSNBC have allowed more partisan opinion in their prime-time programming lineup. That positioning has been sorely tested in the wake of Donald Trump’s election, as CNN’s reporters and producers set about to investigate sundry controversies surrounding the Commander-in-Chief and his administration. It is not unusual during a regular CNN programming day to see “New Day” anchor Chris Cuomo grilling a Trump advisor in the early morning or Jake Tapper offering wry and unvarnished commentary about White House policy on his late-afternoon program, “The Lead.”

In January, CNN conducted an internal brand survey, eager to find out whether remarks made by Trump suggesting CNN offered“fake news” had any sort of lasting impact on prospective viewers. “There has been no diminution whatsoever in the CNN brand,” Zucker said to reporters in February. “It’s as strong as it’s ever been. It’s incredibly trusted and we see no impact whatsoever in all of those attacks on the CNN brand.”

Aslan had been seen as a notable addition to the ranks of CNN’s various non-fiction series. He co-founded BoomGen Studios, a production shingle centered on content from and about the Middle East, in 2006. He served as a consulting producer on the HBO drama “The Leftovers” and has penned best-selling books such as “Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth” and “No God but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam.” In episodes of “Believer,” Aslan examined various faiths and doctrines around the world, spending time with Orthodox Jews in Israel and a group of Indian cannibals who, in the series’ first episode, ate cooked human brain tissue.

Tolerance Will Not Stop Terrorism

At some point, leaders in the West will have to recognize that they share very little in common with the worldview of Islamic terrorists. At some point, they will have to take seriously Islamic theology and the mindset of a radical Muslim. At some point, they will have to come to grips with the fact that they cannot combat Islamic terrorism with tolerance.

Better Opportunities Won’t Combat Terrorism

In his significant new book, The Islam in Islamic Terrorism: The Importance of Beliefs, Ideas, and Ideology, Ibn Warraq writes:

There are many contemporary political commentators and intellectuals who do not accept what seems an obvious starting point in trying to explain the behavior of Islamic terrorists, namely their beliefs, their ideology as laid down in tract after tract, statement after statement, interview after interview, and book after book — books that are the careful work of Muslim scholars of Islam, lavishly sprinkled with quotes from the Koran, which is the very word of Allah, the hadīth (the sayings and deeds of Muhammad and his Companions), the sira (life of the Prophet), all used to justify their heinous acts, even against civilians, including women, children, and the old.

Because of this, Western leaders are always looking for other causes of Islamic terrorism. The problem is unemployment. Or poverty. Or lack of education. Or the history of Western colonialism in the Muslim world. Or something else. Anything but Islamic theology and beliefs.

Just last month, former Secretary of State John Kerry advised graduates of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government that the way to solve the terror problem in Middle East was to provide better educational and vocational opportunities for the youth. He said, “Surely we can begin to prevent tomorrow’s extremism by offering young people the promise of modernity and good governance, not the destruction of strapping on a suicide vest and blowing yourself up and a whole bunch of innocent people.” (He said this in the aftermath of the Manchester suicide bombing.)

The reality is that many terrorists come up from upper- and middle-class families. Many are well educated (including Ph.D.’s and medical doctors). And many have all the opportunities a young person could ask for. (Remember that Osama bin Laden was a friend of Saudi royalty and came from a rich, influential Saudi family.)

It is Islamic theology that drives the terrorist, and jobs, educational opportunity, and all the benefits of the West will not deter him. He is at war with the unbelievers, whether he finds them in London or Algeria. His sacred duty is holy war.

Denying the Root Cause

Speaking of the Charlie Hebdo slaughter in France, Ibn Warraq writes,

After the massacre “White House press secretary Josh Earnest suggested that ‘these are individuals who carried out an act of terrorism, and … later tried to justify that act of terrorism by invoking the religion of Islam and their own deviant view of it.’” This sounds as if the Charlie Hebdo terrorists set out to commit a random act of violence, and then, when they realized they needed some justification afterwards, plucked “Islam” out of the air by sheer chance.

Precisely. This is what our “enlightened” leaders would have us believe. These attacks have nothing to do with Islam. If we can understand what is upsetting these people, then we can live together in peace.

Not so. What is upsetting them is their theology.

After the most recent terrorist attack in London, major security questions are being asked. How did these terrorists slip through the cracks? Some were already known to the police and national security. Yet they were able to operate freely enough to concoct and carry out their murderous plot.

One of the London terrorists previously appeared in a UK documentary called The Jihadis Next Door in which he was seen praying with an unfurled ISIS flag. Yet he was able to remain in the UK and, quite obviously, was not that closely monitored.

Do the British authorities want to stop terrorism? Of course they do, with all their hearts and souls. Do they care deeply about the wellbeing of their people? Without a doubt. I’m sure many would give their lives to save the lives of others. And I imagine their system is strained to the max as they try to stay one step ahead of the killers.

But that illustrates a large part of the problem. Any country that thinks it can tolerate the presence of thousands of jihadi Muslims is deceiving itself. Soon enough, blood will be shed — lots of it.

Italy’s Intolerance — And Safety

I just spent three days in Italy and Germany. While in Italy, I spoke with a colleague who served as a policeman for years. He had dealt with high-level security cases in the past and explained to me why, so far, Italy has not had a rash of Islamic terror attacks. (He is not boasting; rather, he is grateful.)

One factor is that many Islamic immigrants pass from Africa into Italy on their way to other countries, so they are not as likely to launch an attack. They want Italy to be a safe haven for them.

Another is how the military police and local police are involved in their communities, constantly gathering and sharing information.

Yet another factor (only in Italy!) is that in Sicily, where I was staying, the mafia controls the building industry, including access to explosives, and they are not going to sell explosives to terrorists.

Finally, there is Italy’s intolerance of radical Muslims. My friend explained that the moment someone is caught going in this direction (in other words, acting like the jihadi next door), that person is arrested and deported. This is also widely reported in the media so as to send out a warning as well.

Because Italy is intolerant of this terrorist ideology, the government combats it more aggressively.

This does not guarantee the nation’s safety, but it goes a long way to preserving it, since you cannot fight terrorism with tolerance. Quite the contrary. It is only a strategic, wide-ranging, and uncompromising intolerance that can combat Islamic terrorism. That will never happen as long as Western leaders refuse to recognize the Islamic roots of Islamic terror. New Law Allows Govt to Seize Children If Parents Oppose Their ‘Gender Identity’

Legislation passed by the Canadian province of Ontario has granted authorities the right to take children away from parents who refuse to accept their children’s “gender identity.” Critics of the new measure launched a petition aiming for a repeal of the “totalitarian” child abuse bill.

Out of Ontario’s 86 legislators, 63 voted in favor of Bill 89 or “The Supporting Children, Youth and Families Act of 2017” on June 1.

The legislation replaces the Child and Family Services Act which used to govern child protection, foster care and adoption services in the province.

The new law includes “gender identity” and “gender expression” as factors to be considered by child protection services “in the best interests of the child.”

Toobin’s take … Shortly after the public testimony of James Comey ended, CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin casually dropped a bomb, without evidence. Toobin said that President Donald Trump was under criminal investigation. He is pretty much the only one saying that, and he didn’t say why he thinks that. Nothing in the Comey testimony confirmed it. Take a deeper look

Dershowitz slams pundits like Toobin … For a few weeks, liberal law professor and ardent constitutionalist Alan Dershowitz has been trying to explain that the president has the legal authority to stop any investigation. Comey reluctantly admitted as much during his testimony yesterday. Now Dershowitz is taking a victory lap of sorts and admonishing those who are pushing a false narrative.

Media won’t cover Lynch bombshell … CNN’s John King admitted that the bombshell testimony of James Comey — that Loretta Lynch allegedly intervened in the server investigation on behalf of Hillary Clinton — won’t get much coverage. King said that “this won’t get much attention because it’s in the rearview mirror …” Our friends at NewsBusters have the full story.

He thought it was manga … Vanity Fair’s Kurt Eichenwald got caught with his cyber pants down. When he tweeted a photo including a browser tab with “hentai” on it, instead of coming clean, he chose to blame his kids. His story was that he was merely trying to show his wife that people look at deviant things with tentacles, and he did it for his kids because their mom wouldn’t believe them. Sometimes it is best to stop digging, Kurt.

It couldn’t be the Obama administration … NYT editor Jonathan Weisman tweeted out that “Comey says Attorney General Sessions told him not to call Russia probe an investigation but a ‘matter.’ Led him to step away from DOJ.” Which is completely opposite to what Comey actually said. It was Loretta Lynch who told Comey to call the Clinton server investigation a “matter.” Another instance of the media acting “without evidence.”

Marc Ambinder not much better … Former White House correspondent and current Annenberg Media fellow Marc Ambinder tweeted about the Lynch admission. But he left out a lot of detail. Here’s the tweet where he said, “The AG asked him to call it a ‘matter,’ not an investigation.” Um … Marc, which AG, and which matter?

All the news fit to tweet … I know you were breathlessly wanting to know if Trump broke his own record for not tweeting. Well, probably not.
