First you must sign in.
Then go to the Command Center page.
Then click on the middle-right side for -View All-. Select the group you want to join (or you can create a group of your own)
Then click middle-top-right on: Join (name of the group) and that's it.
If I were you I would post something right away, as a new member to that group to show the rest of the group members you are there to make friends.
