The "Proclamation" writers at the White House had a busy day on Tuesday, issuing a flurry of presidential proclamations, all signed by President Joe Biden.
In order of their appearance on the White House website -- all posted on May 31 -- we find the following:
-- A Proclamation on Black Music Appreciation Month, 2022
-- A Proclamation on Great Outdoors Month, 2022
-- A Proclamation on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, And Intersex Pride Month, 2022
-- A Proclamation on National Homeownership Month, 2022
-- A Proclamation on National Ocean Month, 2022
-- A Proclamation on National Caribbean-American Heritage Month, 2022
-- A Proclamation on National Immigrant Heritage Month, 2022
Here's a few paragraphs from each of those proclamations:
Black Music Appreciation:
"During Black Music Appreciation Month, we honor Black musicians, singers, and contributors to the music industry — past and present — whose innovative talents unite us in joy as much as in sorrow and healing. We pay homage to the musical legends whose artistic expressions help build community, generate empathy, and foster a sense of shared identity. And we celebrate Black artists who have used their songs to stand up to injustice, fight for equality, and reflect a mirror on society — reminding us all of our enduring obligation to deliver the promise of America for all Americans."
Great Outdoors:
"Boundless outdoor spaces across the country unite Americans of every age and background for hiking, fishing, canoeing, hunting, exploring, reflecting, and finding solace. As part of my Administration’s efforts to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion, we are committed to ensuring that everyone can access and enjoy America’s great outdoors...Today, our lands and waters face unprecedented threats from climate change that require historic action to safeguard and preserve them..."
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Pride:
"Today, the rights of LGBTQI+ Americans are under relentless attack. Members of the LGBTQI+ community — especially people of color and trans people — continue to face discrimination and cruel, persistent efforts to undermine their human rights. An onslaught of dangerous anti-LGBTQI+ legislation has been introduced and passed in States across the country, targeting transgender children and their parents and interfering with their access to health care. These unconscionable attacks have left countless LGBTQI+ families in fear and pain...This month, we remind the LGBTQI+ community that they are loved and cherished. My Administration sees you for who you are — deserving of dignity, respect, and support..."
