The only reason such people get elected and remain in the positions is because the mainstream media is not fair and balanced in reporting the good, bad, and ugly about candidates running for office/reelection; and challenging them to defend the legitimacy of their behavior/actions with substantive pinpoint questions/follow-up questions during debates and interviews. That would negate the purpose and necessity for political parties to raise money to broadcast political ads, of which are primarily conduits of biased information.
